my daughter and I are going on the july 17th mexico cruise, and I have some questions about transportation. I purchased the Disney transfers, but am having second thoughts. We will be flying into LAX the morning of the cruise. We want to get to the port early because there is only 1 grownup to wait in line (no tag-teaming it for the lines for kids club registration and boarding). I know no one has done the west coast yet, but based on FL exeriences, do the DCL transfers generally only arrive at certain times? when? will I be on a bus with a million other people, all arriving at the port at once? will I have to wait at the airport a long time? If I arrange other transportation (limo, etc.) what do I do with my luggage? do I put it somewhere when I get to the port? Finally, any ideas about alternative transportation? I want to make this as hassle-free as possible, since its going to be a long day with lots of waiting, so I dont think I want to rent a car. Thanks in advance for your help, especially all you experienced cruisers :flower:

Unfortnately, as you stated, no one has done the CA cruises yet...you really cannot compre FL to CA because DCL uses the Mears buses for their transportation and have had the system in place for many years. CA is a whole new territory and who knows how smooth the beginning sailings will be. Luckily you are sailing later in the season so things should be ironed out by then. I think people can better answer your questions when they start the CA cruises...then we will all know first hand the strategies to use for transportation in CA.

Sorry I couldn't help you!!

I can say that the DCL buses that arrive at Port Canaveral from the airport get there earlier than the ones from WDW....but who knows what will happen in CA.

I called DCL about transfers just a couple days ago. Yes, they will be using buses, so I am guessing full buses.

If you arrange your own transportation from LAX to the port, let me suggest Super Shuttle execucar. We are using them from the port to disneyland (we are on the first repo cruise), and then again from DL to LAX to get back home. The driver meets you with a sign with your name on it, I am sure they would help with your luggage, and then to drop you off at the port, they drive you right up, the porters take your bags, you take your carry ons and you are good to go. Just head on up and sign in for your vacation.

Super Shuttle also has vans. We have used both and both are fantastic. The execucar needs to be prepaid. We like having the flexibility of not waiting on anyone else, so we chose the car this time around.

you can check out the website and get the phone numbers at supershuttle.com. Very nice people.

Webray - do you mind telling how much supershuttle charges for the port to Disneyland part? I need to go the other way - Disneyland to port (actually wondering now if Supershuttle would even go that way). I got some limo/towncar quotes using the mousesaver site links. They range from $39 for a towncar sedan up to $90 for a limo.

You can also order a "private van" that holds up to 7 people. That way you don't have to wait for it to fill up and then maybe go to several other stops before yours. We are paying less than $20 more for this service over the "comunity van" approach.
