Howdy all....my DW and I would like to come down to
disneyland and arrive 11/8 and stay for 5 nights. The big three hotels are out since we cannot afford them. We are vacation club members but there is no availability whwn we want to come . Can some one suugest a reasonable hotel that is fairly close to the parks since my wife is disabled and walks with a cane. any suggestions and reccomendatios would b appreciated. we were last there over 10 years ago--we know Disney World like the back of our hand but not Disneyland. Thanks for any suggestions and or directions. Tom & Marilou also do you feel you need a car for 5 nights/6 days? Thanks!

What are you looking for in a place to stay? If distance is #1, I agree with the above, but having some more guidelines to what you want would help narrow down the choices.

For off-site locations, I like something near the crosswalk on Harbor.
Best Western Park Place Inn
Tropicana
Park Vue Inn
Desert Inn & Suites

Here's a map so you'll be able to see what's in the area. http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/Disneyland/default.asp

Have you considered a scooter rental from one of the local agencies?
It might be nice to have one, to save a few steps going to and from the parks as well as in the parks.

I usually prefer to not have a car. I like staying all Disney.
We have done side trips over the years and aren't interested in them much now.

No, if you stay across the street, you do not need a car for 5 days. We just walk to the park, eat all our meals there or in DTD. We went for 5 nights, 4 days in December. We had a car that we didn't use even once

We stay at the Best Western Park Place Inn. Free breakfast and right across the street!

You might want to look into the Candy Cane Inn. They are clean, provide breakfast, have great customer service, and have a private shuttle. With premium rooms, breakfast is delivered to your room, which would save your wife some walking. The ECV suggestion is a good one.

I agree with what others have said. The places across the street are probably your best bet. There's a number of restaurants nearby and delivery available for food, but if you wanted to you could always take the ART shuttle further down Harbor for access to many more restaurants. I don't think you need a car for 5 days, even with a disabled person.

I'm not sure what WDW is like, but your main transportation around the park is the railroad. DCA doesn't have anything in the way of transportation around the park (that was open when I was there, at least) except a streetcar that doesn't go too far. There is the monorail as well but it only makes a round trip between DTD and Tomorrowland. It might be worth it to you to consider renting a wheelchair or scooter if you'd like to minimize her time on her feet.

OP - provided you purchased your DVC contract directly, or before mid-2011 if resale, you can use your points to stay at any of the three on-site hotels. The points are higher than if you were able to get into VGC, but you'd still be on property and wouldn't be paying out of pocket for 5 nights.

We have stayed at BWPPI and Tropicana and would stay at either of them again. Close to the parks is my #1 priority.

We also enjoyed the HoJo and Hilton, which are both much cheaper than the DLH and GCH.

I've stayed at the Quality Inn twice on my last two visits. The staff was exceptionally pleasant (I actually was in the midst of a house closing and had to fax things back and forth one morning - and they were super helpful). Rooms were a bit tight if you're going with a full foursome. But, if all you're doing is sleeping and showering, its fine. And you can walk to the parks.
