hi all

we're (mom, 17 yr old, 12 yr old and 8 yr old) are going to disneyland for a week in august and then driving to la for the king tut exhibit - any suggestions on restaurants, things to do would be greatly appreciated! we're staying at the renaissance hollywood hotel since my 17 yr old loves anything hollywood

wasn't sure where to post this - hope it's not a problem posting here

thanks in advance for help!

Any type of foods you may be into? Out here, there's lot's of excellent places to try. One of my favorites near LAX is Tito's Tacos on Washington Place. Original Thai BBQ is also very good and inexpensive. Of course, a stop at either In-N-Out or Tommy's are popular hot spots for burgers.

For things to see, The Grove(3rd & Fairfax) is a pretty nice outdoor mall area. Universal City Walk is another place along the same line as The Grove. And, 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica is yet another strip of stores to shop at.

There are many other things to do. Let me know what you're interested in and I'll chime in with what I know...

if your son loves anything hollywood then you should try to squeeze in Universal Studios Hollywood. It's not all rides there, the backlot tour can be interesting for the first timer.

there's also the hollywood entertainment museum. Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world!

thanks for the ideas- after looking at the various web sites for la i noticed roscoe's chicken and waffles - any thoughts about this restarant? i also love mexican - any fav local spots?

my 17 yr old daughter loves shopping! (of course what 17 yr old doesn't:) she'd like to window shop the chi chi shops (window shop only!) any thoughts?

thanks for all your help!

Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles is another good place to go. I never thought the two would go well together but they do! Yum! Out here, there's a few good Mexican restaurants to go to. As mentioned, Tito's Tacos by LAX is popular with the locals. King Taco is one of my favorites. The carne asada tacos are killer! Let's see...there's also Benito's Taco Shop that serves the San Diego style "rolled tacos".

South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa is a pretty large mall. Plus, it isn't too far from DL. If you're into outlet malls, Citadel Outlet Mall in Commerce or the Ontario Mills Outlet Mall are good ones.

I hope this helps...

thanks so much! those look like some great places and will definitely have to check out the outlets!

thanks again!

Thanks for the heads-up about the king tut exhibit. I'm looking into getting tickets while we are in LA in July.

hi

just to let you know i got our king tut tickets at ticketmaster online

Even if you dont want to stay there (although its a nice hotel and centrally located) the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is fun. Its across the street from Mann's Chinese Theater and when we were there a couple of years ago there was a cool exhibit on the second floor I think? It was the location of the first Academy Awards and has been used for many films and most all of the old time famous movie stars have stayed there. I love elegant old hotels, so I really loved this.
