I am a 41 year old mother of 2, and I am going out Friday night with a bunch of old friends to see a band play. The venue is sort of a Rock Bar. All of us either went to school with some of these members, but that is not the point.

Now, I NEVER go out to these types of things. I am NOT a fashionista, but not wearing cardigans daily either. I have been home recovering from major sugeries for 2 years, and would honestly like to look good. I want to have a good time. I am looking forward to this. Also, they have not seen me since I have dropped about 70 pounds over the years.:)

I was definitely thinking of jeans, so that is OK. I have many pairs to choose from. I am thinking of going with dark blue skinny jeans.

My issues in question would be what to wear as boots. Would high black boots look too "i want to be 20" again, lol. I don't want to wear my ski boots either, lol. I also have a cute pair of ankle boots that are brown leather, just a small heel. I have the new uggs with mohair hanging down, but as I am like 5 feet one MAYBE, lol. I was thinking a heel might be nice.

Now onto a top, lol. This is my worst dilemna. I have tons of woolen but nice tops, and some shorter ones. Would a nice Vneck cotton top with a brown belt be ok with those ankle brown boots be ok?

My daughter is telling me to wear a black skirt with tights and my tall black boots with my white top, but I dunno, I have to be comfortable, as we are all going to a nice Mexican Restaurant first. If I start off with those boots, I might not last long, lol.

I know there are deeper problems, but for once it is fun that this is my problem this week, nothing deeper.

So ANY advice is welcome, bring it on please. :flower3:

I like the idea of jeans with the brown leather boots.

There's lots you can do for tops. This time of year a pretty cotton top under a stylish vest would be warm and comfortable. :goodvibes

I'm glad you're feeling well enough to go out. Have a great time!

Yes, Thank you. Until posting this, I had TOTALLY forgotten about those small boots. I love them, and they are the right height. I will either wear a top I have, or go splurge on one for myself :). I am kind of fussy for my tops, as I want to HIDE as much as I can, rather than the other way around, lol.

Thank you so much. I actually am going through some more things, but between now and the next surgery, I want to go have a good time with the ladies, and maybe have a drink or 2 :rolleyes1. I am leaving the car at home, and we will split a taxi back!

I was hoping BOMB would show up, she also has great advice. So BOMB if you hear this. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I am 44 and I go out to bars and clubs weekly.

Jeans and either of the boots, the black boots would be wine, maybe the white top and accessorize! A cute scarf perhaps or a great necklace. Big necklaces are in right now.

With the short brown boots, how are you going to belt the top? Be very careful about a muffin top when you sit down. Spanx help with that a lot. Not saying you have one but most women over 40.....you know!

Don't forget that if you are going to be sitting down most people are going to see you from the neck up which is why I am talking about a scarf or a necklace.

Have a great time!

Back in the day when we went out to bars and there was no smoking ban I planned my "bar clothes" as to what would clean up the easiest to get rid of the smoke :lmao:.

If you want to look "hot" I would go with your DD's suggestion of the skirt/top and maybe get a fun vest to wear with the outfit. Having that second layer helps hide things and a vest won't be too warm inside. Otherwise the jeans, short boots and a top with a belt or a bright scarf would be fine too.

Jeans, high heel tall boots or short flat boots, I wear both. My daily outfits are skinny jeans with either and at night if going out I put on my dresser knee high boots with the same skinny jeans and always a scarf and sometimes a sassy page boy hat if cold enough. I get lots of complements from women and men. My girl friends would tell me in a heart beat if I was dressing out of my age range and I am 37. The trick is to always stay well covered on the top, if showing leg or doing knee high super high boots.

I would skip the uggs , if bar is smokey I would be afraid the mohair would suck up the smoke smell . YUCK!

I like the top with vest idea. Have fun!!

All great suggestions, thanks.

I don't want to ruin my UGGS, so that is out. One day I will wear them,

By belting the top, do you mean will the belt be over the top, or in the loops? Sorry, I am not sure on what you meant. I was going to tuck in the top, or just wear one that sits, and put the belt through the loops. Thankfully I am not worried about the muffin top, but I STILL would not want any part of that showing, :rotfl2:

I wanted to go out today to try on some shirts/tops, and get some earrings.

Crap, DH left at 6, and I heard a BIG BANG. Poor guy fell down the last stair (the stoop). He came limping back in and was shaking like a leaf, practically in tears saying over and over "it is broken". His ankle. Could not keep him back from going in to work :mad::mad:. He says he has to do 'some' things, and then he will be back. I am going to call him soon, to see if I should go pick him up, and he can leave his car at work (the airport). He is replacing his boss for the week, and so wanted to make a great mark doing it.

Hey hot mama, have a great time. If you didn't live in the frozen tundra I'd volunteer to go out with you;)

There's no way I'd wear my uggs to the bar. I'm think the ankle boots would be great and they are in style here with a short skirt and not just pants.

Wear an eye catching necklace or sparkly scarf if you are going to wear a simple shirt.

I bought a gorgeous shirt recently that actually covers up the goodies but has some bling/sparkle just on the shoulder area. Enough of it to say "hello look up here, not down here"

Enjoy the night out and hope you are doing well.

:banana: I would have loved that. We could have had SOO much fun. Alas, frozen tundra it is, but it is warming up

That is exactly exactly the shirt type I would wear. I want people talking to my face :)

I am sitting here waiting to see if Mr. Broke it or Sprained it calls, and if not, I am off to the mall to have a looksee at some tops, necklaces, scarves. I figure no news is good news, but it is his right ankle, and driving with that

Thank You. I fully intend to have a great time!!!!!!

Boots over jeans are still very in. You can totally wear the brown boots with a v neck.

Uggs really do hold up well but I wouldn't wear them to a bar unless the bar was located in a ski resort. :lmao:

You could also wear a light dress or tunic over the jeans for another layer of warmth. Target has some great ones out right now.

Yes, not a ski resort, but lately NOT FAR :rotfl:

It seemed all I ever wore was a tunic, or something long, so I am wanting to step away from that.

No Target here :sad2:, but coming soon.

There is a great big mall about 5 minutes away, so that is where I will go. I surely should find something. I will make sure to try it on, and wear my jeans and my boots!

I was going to say jeans, boots, and a sassy black top. You can take a sweater or something with you, but it wouldn't be necessary.

I'm 41 also and go out about twice a month. My 'uniform' is skinny jeans and in the winter, high boots or high heeled 'shooties' and a cute fitted jacket or nice top. I wouldn't go with a skirt. have fun!!

Everyone is giving great advice here! :thumbsup2

I'm pushing 36 and love wearing skinny jeans with my knee high black heeled boots. I'll wear a more loose top though with the skinny jeans, nothing fitted, because I think skinny jeans and tight tops just don't work together. You could always wear a longer, looser top with a wide belt over it and some great accessories, like a scarf or necklace.

have fun!

No TARGET!!! OHH NO! A good place for cheap tops is Forever 21. There can be some really cheap looking items there but there are also some really cute things.

I was also thinking something sparkly. (Great minds think alike! ) Not too sparkly, just a little sparkly. For oomph.

Interesting all the scarf people here. I have never mastered the art of the scarf. :rotfl: I have some, but for whatever reason they don't seem to work on me. I like them on others, though. And I love great earrings!! (Though sadly, I've had a recent rash of earring tragedies, lol.)

Put on each outfit, take a pic, post, then let us decide..... :):rolleyes1

I agree with the person that advised if you are wearing the skinny jeans do not tuck in your shirt. That is why I asked about the belt, I was thinking it was going to be belted over your short on the waist or hips.

If you go with a longish shirt that is untucked and you don't have a wide belt then a scarf or a long necklace will elongate you.

My uniform all winter has been skinny jeans or leggings with boots. 9 West is having a GREAT boot sale right now. It's painful to look at because I am pretty much booted up!

IM BACK!!

I went overboard :upsidedow

I purchased a nice black sweater with a DEEP V, and a grey camisole to go underneath it. I also bought a grey leather jacket!

I forgot that I also have these GREAT high GREY Leather boots. So either way, it is a win/win for me. I can wear either boot with the top. I won't wear my short brown ones, I'll stick with my other choices here. Unless, I feel differently on Friday.

BTW, the top is a light wool. Very nice. Sears had 40% off EVERYTHING, even things already reduced. The top goes over the waistband by a longshot too, so no worries about anything showing. Best part it was a size 2 (xs). I don't think I EVER fit in that EVER EVER EVER!

Update on DH: He is now on his way home, so I am off to find bags of ice and frozen peas. I am anxious to take a look at his ankle. I feel awful for him. He has struggled through most of the day, and at the airport :sad2:, he must be aching.

Oh, and I also bought large silver hoops, and a fancy (sort of) Necklace. Since I really never wear necklaces, I paid it 2.99 :)

Thank you Everyone. I have honestly NEVER gotten the hang of posting pics. But I will "try" to get my DD or DH to take some once I am all dressed up Friday, and will put them up after I recover :rotfl:

Thanks again. You all were very much help.

Good for you!!! Have a great time!! Size 2:woohoo: Last time I saw a size 2 was when I was a size 2T!!
