Hello All

I figured that if anyone could help me, it would be here on the DIS!
SO, here's the challenge

I am in charge (volunteered) to host a nieces birthday party. We are setting up a candy buffet. I have researched everywhere and have got most everything figured out.
BUT....I would really like to make her "Candy Shoppe" have some type of awning, like the red and white stripe ones you saw on the olde time types. I just cannot figure out how to do it.
(if it was one simple window I would have used a double curtain with the second one under the first and had it drape over a rod but this is a flat wall of windows and I am so lost here!!)
I am using a rectangle table that will be placed against a bank of windows, floor to ceiling. I have no where else to set this up as the rest of house is already "involved" in other aspects of the party.
I'd like to have this "awning" come from the window wall and go over the table (or at least part of the table).

I am very willing to "create it" and or purchase minimally but have no idea where to start.
(We're having a complete scrapbook area set up (each child is getting an album to decorate 4 pages at party and then continue at home)and a photo booth area that we're making out of a "fridge" box.where we'll take a photo of the birthday girl with her friend and then send in the thank you card that follows.
SO, as you can see, we're pretty well organized with everything EXCEPT this awning idea that I cannot seem to figure out or give up on (yet :worship:)
ANYONE have any ideas for me?? I would appreciate ANY help at all. Thanks so much!!!!

I think the red and white awning sounds cute. Could you hang a white sheet with red streamers attached to it?

What you have planned sounds like fun, I wanna come!:)

The only thing I can think of is a canopy tent. Are you or your DH handy? Mine would make it of PVC pipe, and then I would make fabric curtains. Or you could see if a party rental place has something they could rent in your price range. Kind of like this

I love the ideas for the other areas. This is going to be a great party! Good Luck!

If you are super crafty, can you put together a couple (or 3 or 4) of refrigerator boxes next to each other for width and drape them or PAINT them? It would give you a decent height, and it would be temporary/inexpensive. Just a thought. post pics when you are done with your party. sounds great

PS: DDavis860, Are these "personal threads" the Living Room??? (super newbie here):wave2:

Yes, the more personal threads are in the living room...here!! :)

:welcome:

Then of course the rest of our area is broken down into swaps/scrapping/arts&crafts etc...

WOW! LOVE that tent you have!!!

I will check out a party place or 2 near me today.

I am not sure about the sheet idea, though it sounds really good, I have no idea how the heck to get it attached to the window wall.

I am having so much fun planning and crafting the party items (using my cricut). It is at my SIL house but I am the person thats in charge (gladly) and I just love my "girls". I have three nieces that are all into scrapping as their crazy aunt (That'd be me) got them hooked several years back. I set them up completely and thats why the Scrap party theme is so appropriate for the 9 year old! She is SOOOOOO excited (26 girls are coming!!)

My SIL, is so funny, she calls me every day to talk about it. I really think she is more excited than the birthday girl, too funny! She says she has no craft talent (okay, maybe a pinch, LOL) so she is so thrilled I am jumping in here. She was going to hire someone (HELLO, it was 300.00, CRAZY) instead we're (should I say I) am doing it all and so far it has been a blast.

I wish I could figure out how to post the pictures, I PROMISE to try and get that together after the party.
THANK you both for the idea's. At least I can TRY to get this canopy thing going......

I called our local appliance place already! They get fined by our town for boxes kept/held, so they have NONE and most frig's get shrinkwrapped
but
she was so sweet she is trying to get me 1-2 (I am using one for our Photo booth!)
I am headed to fabric store today to see if I can set the red/white strip material as I do not want to use my good white sheets (WAY too expensive to make a blunder with, lol)

Will keep you guys posted
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I wish I could say it was my tent! I got it from a site when I did a search for PVC tent plans. Cute isn't it? Some people are just too clever! But it looks easy to copy if there is a handy person.

The shade tents at walmart or target might be an idea too, but they run like $100.

Can't wait to see some pics!!
