Hi all. DH and I are going to Miami in October. We'll be staying 4 full days, and 1 half day... what type of food should we get while we're there? We won't be able to save any of it at the end, and I don't like to waste things. We do have a full kitchen.

Thanks! :yay:

Oh, I cook things like chicken, ground turkey burgers, pasta, etc. Sometimes I do really gormet things which would not be a good idea...

I guess I don't understand? Just get what you would buy at home but in smaller qty's.

When we have a condo we usually eat breakfast in the unit, sometimes lunch and almost never dinner. So, I buy snack items, breakfast items and a ferw lunch items.

I agree with everyone else.. just get what you normally eat but less of it. If you run out, there's bound to be a grocery store nearby.

When we rent a beach house for a week, we take breakfast foods, sandwich stuff for lunch and ingredients for one dinner that will make enough for leftovers (spaghetti or lasagna). The rest of the time, we eat out. I'm on vacation, too!!! ;)

I like the way you think.

agnes!

As my husband always tells me, as I am a consummate over-packer, "We are not going to deepest Africa, they HAVE stores, we can buy what we need".

OP--what do you normally do on vacation? Cook in all meals, Eat out all meals? Do a mix? Just figure out how you want to vacation, and go from there.

October, 9 months from now? Hope you're not packing the food to take already!

Sorry if that sounded ugly... you're on the DIS, you're planning too late!

4 days in Miami? I would be eating leftovers from the restaurants.:rotfl:

Seriously, for 4 days I wouldn't bother shopping. It is too short and you might end up wasting $$$ and food.

If you did want to chill out and cook, shop on the spot.:thumbsup2

1 quart of milk
1 can of coffee
2 sticks of butter
1 dozen eggs
1 package of english muffins
1 tin of cavier
4 1/2 bottles of wine
strawberries
whipped cream
1 quart orange juice
clorox wipes

hhmmm, i'll have to think about this a little more and get back to you.........;)

If I am cooking on vacation I go with total convenience. I'd can't imagine cooking like normal. (Though I do admit I make convenience food at home sometimes too!)

Simple breakfasts like instant oatmeal. Other meals are things like Microwave baked potatoes with canned chili, a frozen stirfry premade meal, pasta with jarred sauce, hot dogs, rolls and lunchmeat, etc. Then I pick up exactly the amount of produce I think we'll go through -like apples, grapes, carrots or bagged salad -and that's it. We have plenty of big meals on vacation so I won't make anything that takes more than 5 minutes. It's my vacation too!
