You know, I hate to say this, and I may get beat up on over it, but you sound like a BIG SNOB!!!!
Be happy that you can take your family on a Disney vacation - PERIOD! There are many out there who can't for whatever reason.
Then to basically say that you'll make yourself feel better by having a "proper" stay at another time? What is the difference where you lay your head to sleep?!?! All I'm ever in my room to do is sleep and shower. I'm there to see the parks and have a great vacation. Not sit in my Deluxe Concierge Level room.
You sound absolutely ridiculous in that post, I'm sorry. Please don't let those of us who enjoy our stay at a Value Resort get in your way. :worship: :worship: :worship:

I don't believe the OP ever mentioned concierge!

Like I said I just returned from a quick trip to ASMo with my DS(4). We already had AP's, I got a great rate of $59 for the room, and airfare for $115 RT non stop. I felt like my DS needed some time to me alone and we had a blast on our 3 night whirlwind trip to ASMo where we basically slept & showered in the room. However I am very much looking forward to my Poly concierge trip in October with my DH, DD(6), DS(4), and DD(2). On that trip it will NOT be up in the morning, hit the parks all day, back to the resort to sleep. It will be up in the morning, hit the parks after an easy breakfast at concierge, lunch in the parks and back to the Poly to relax and enjoy our time together in a quiet spot-not just parks, parks, parks. I work hard and I deserve to spend time with my family the way I want to without feeling guilty and that doesn't make me a snob. I can understand the OP's concerns about a place they've never been and you do read negative reviews of all the hotels so those tend to stick with you. Asking for a bit of reassurance doesn't make the OP a snob.

C. Go with the thought of "Oh, I am just seeing how the other half lives!" :earboy2:

I'm a little "put off" by this statement. Staying at a value resort does not reduce you to the lowest common denominator. Saving money IMO is smart and does not necessarily mean you cannot afford a higher priced resort. The fact that someone makes enough money to take a family of <insert number here> to WDW is at least a small triumph in itself. With all of your family with you at WDW i think resort selection will be the least of your concerns when you are actually there. I know you'll have tons of fun and totally forget about the resort issue. :earboy2:

Thanks very much to everyone for their support, encouragement, and enthusiasm!

I certainly wasn't looking to create a class-war thread about who/what/when/why people stay at each level of resort and definitely don't look at this as a have/have-not situation. This is just my first time going to a value resort and the first time bringing some of my wife's side of the family along (my parents got me hooked on Disney when I was very young) and so I'm just having the usual pre-trip jitters and want them to have as wonderful of a trip as we always have had.

A big part of the fun for us has always been the resorts since we usually take 1 or 2 breaks during the day and come back to the resort, and since DW likes to nap a bit more than I do, I frequently spend time wandering around the resort so having a nice resort experience is important. Looking back it gets increasingly hard to seperate the enjoyment of the resorts from the enjoyment of the whole trip itself. No, I've never stayed in concierge (naturally wouldn't mind that, just haven't done so yet) and my mention of staying at a "proper" resort was intended to be tounge-in-cheek. Bottom line is that it's a trip to Disneyworld and I'm always thrilled to be going back.

I know this will always be remembered as the first trip with DD above all else and will be special for that alone, just as our honeymoon was our honeymoon regardless of where we stayed and our POR trip is now just remembered as "the pink eye trip"... :)

I was just wanting to have a reassuring "it'll be fine" from a few folks who have stayed at values as well as other levels of resorts, which y'all were more than generous with, so I'll now go tuck my tail between my legs and retreat before this thread gets any more heated than it already is... ;)

Thanks and Disney! Disney! Disney!!!

BiffMan, I have stayed in 20 of the Disney Resorts so far (I only have the Poly, Beach Club, All-Star Movies, and Dolphin to go). I have enjoyed every single one of my resort stays (and I've stayed in most resorts more than once).

My first All-Star Sports stay was last October. I began my Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal trip with that resort. I had a lovely time there. Click here to see a few of my AS-Sports room photos.

My favorite Moderate Resort is PO-FQ. Boy, how I love that place. And my favorite Deluxe Resort is the GF (I get all swoon-y whenever I think of the Grand). But I have no qualms at all about staying in the All-Star Resorts again. As a matter of fact, I stayed in the All-Star Music Resort for the first time this summer. I had another great stay (even though I somehow got stuck in a smoking room, arg!).

I can't wait to give the All-Star Movies a try. Then I will have completed my All-Star Resort Trilogy. ;) Having said that, I know I will stay at the resort again.

Whatever you ultimately decide to do, relax and enjoy your time with your family. Vacations seem to pass much too quickly.

I certainly didn't take it that way.

Sounds like you're feeling better. Have a wonderful trip!

The OP didn't seem snobbish at all in his post, but your reply definately does make you sound snobbish. Who are you to make judgements on other peoples vacation preferences? The OP never said anything condeming you and your choice of value resorts, he was merely speaking for himself. Some people like to spend more time in their hotel rooms on vacations and relax, and would prefer a room that might be a little larger or more upgraded. There is nothing snobby or wrong about that in any way, and on top of that he never mentioned deluxe resorts or concierge. Even if he had, you're just as bad as you're claiming he is by acting like you're so much better than someone who WOULD want to stay in a deluxe resort concierge room.Get off your high horse.

I like Numbers 1,4 & 6. Your are going to Disney World. That should be enuf!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Ditto on the Snobish part. " How the Other Half lives" is more than a little snobish. I feel very blessed to be a member of the "other Half"

Girlfriend - this should be all of your problems.

Maybe you need to grow up a bit. Sorry, but maybe if I hit you hard, you will realize how good you got it.

Wake up - Your going to Disney for God Sakes.

How's that for tough love.

Hey! We normally stay at deluxes, but one year we stayed at All Star Sports for all the same reasons you have. Went with extended family, wanted connecting rooms, bla bla bla.

My kids still talk about that dang Goofy pool! No slide, but Goofy shoots water at you and they pipe in music. Very relaxing! And the kids also enjoyed the big spongy football field.

We were on the first floor, facing the football field. A close walk to the Goofy pool, and we had fun sitting on the park benches outside our room watching the "game" which was made up of different gurests who didn't even know each other. What a wonderful way for kids to make friends with kids from all over.

As you say - you're going to Disney!

We stayed at ASSp and got back two weeks ago. We loved it. :flower: We had pool view with connectiong rooms. I never did see the big helmet., but my son was mad that we didn't stay in Hoops. We were in building 6-surfs up. I suppose it depends on how much time you spend at the resort but we weren't there a lot. Every morn we got our mug filled and it was not busy. Our last day(Sept 3) was very busy but there were a lot of kid's teams there-baseball, basketball and soccer. The busses were great(except one time) and ASSp you are first on and first off if it is going to any of the other AS resorts.

We would stay there again and use the money we sayed on something else-like food. We loved the dining plan and would love to use it again even if it wasn't free.

Have a great time. You will be in Disney-with your family. :grouphug: I wish I was going again:flower:

Wow, there are some really bitter people in this thread who need to knock the chips of their shoulder. If you'll read the orginal post you'll see his favorite resort is a moderate. And part of his trepidation is not that it is a value but that he doesn't care for the Sports theme. We all have our resort prejudices and I don't see where he was rude or disrepspectful to anyone. The rude people are the ones who are calling names and childishly mocking his post.
