Need some Ceremony Advice Please!

Hello everyone!

I have a question for those of you that have done Unity Candle celebrations...

How on Earth does this work?

Did you just let there be a few moments of silence while everything was lit?

Did you play a song?

EEK! Halp!

Often people pick a song to be played during the lighting of the candle or pouring of the sand, but you don't have to.

We had them play "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and we had the Reverand say something about the Unity Candle - two becoming one - or something like that. The only problem with ours was our ceremony was outside and the candle kept blowing out. Looking back we probably should have done the sand ceremony but to me it looks like sandart that kids do at carnivals.

I found this on line.

The unity candle ceremony represents the union of the two families. The bride and groom light the individual tapers and bring the two flames together to light the larger column. Candles can be personalized with the bride and groom names and date and special sayings or images on some of the candles. An elegant symbol of two families becoming one!

My question is this:
If we opted to play a song would it be too long?

You can play a song it wont be to long.

We had a Disney sound person at our ceremony and he just played a portion of the song - not the whole song.

We had the organist and violinist play a portion of a song - they were great at just fading out the song when the final candle was lit by DH and I.

The whole thing doesn't really take that long, so I think they would just play a portion of the song. I was concentrating too hard on lighting the candle that I didn't notice the music . We also had Rev. Day say a few words to explain what was happening.
