Bleah. I feel sick through and through. I came home to find a huge pile of partially digested dog breakfast and some supper from last night. While i was cleaning up that, DH discovered "some drool" in my daughter's bedroom. Well...it's not drool. And its all over my bare feet. I wiped the worst of it up but I'm telling your, this "liquid" is all over her room. I don't know if he stood in there and twirled while he was doing it, but we have "matter" in every cranny and crevice, on the CDs, the new bathing suit, the sheet music, the bedstead, the jewelry...you name it, it's brown. Bleah!

We just brought Minkydog home from the sitter's where he had been for 9 days. I've checked with her and she says he was fine there. He was restless last night and had to go out several times. I just thought it was his normal anxiety--He's 9yo and he gets very anxious when we go out of town, but he loves his sitter and gets along well there.

Two questions: What to do about the upsettedness? and What would you do about the carpet? I'm leaning toward ripping the whole thing out. Gotta give it 2 days to dry out. Bleah. Bleah.:headache:

Poor you (and poor doggie)...

Is your dog still doing this? It sounds like he/she may have a blockage or eaten something he/she shouldn't have (clothing, socks, etc.). If it is still happening, I'd suggest a trip to the vet for an x-ray...

My only suggestion for the carpet is a pet stain remover for carpet, or Resolve (with some Febreeze for any lingering stain). I'd replace the carpet if nothing else worked.

GL!

We've been through the very same thing so I can feel your pain.

For the upset tummy - feed him only plain cooked white rice and plain cooked chicken for a couple of days. Integrate his own food back in slowly after that. You may want to add some water to the food bowl while he eats if he's not drinking much on his own.

For the carpet - try soaking it in white vinegar, letting it dry, then covering it in baking soda and vacuuming that after it's sat overnight.

Our dog came home from her first ever kennel stay and had the same thing happen. It didn't happen at the kennel (or so the owner said). We took her to the vet and found out that she was dehydrated. I called the kennel back and the owner said "Now that you mention it, she hardly drank any water while here." I was furious! She now goes to a wonderful kennel where they put water in her food dish to make sure she's at least getting some water. They also give her water outside of her cage.

Our dog had episodes every now and then of DT (dirty tummy) and vommiting. After about a 1/2 dozen of these episodes over a 4 year period, we took her to a specialist who, after 3 days of tests, figured out that she had become allergic to beef flavoring used in dog food & treats. Since we took her off of all beef flavored products, she has not had one episode.

I hope your dog is feeling better soon!

I sure hope your dog is feeling better. :)

We use Stain Extunguisher for these types of problems. I love this stuff! You can get it at Home Depot.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I really appreciate the advice. This doggie is 9yo and I can count on one hand how many sick days he has had. Minky never has a bad day. :goodvibes

I fixed him some plain rice for dinner, just enough to get his seizure meds down. I'm wondering/hoping that this is a reaction to stress or perhaps he's just grieving for his sitter? That would be a kick in the tail. He's not vomiting anymore but he's still squatting about every 2 hours. At least he's not whining anymore. In fact, I've seen him loping around the yard a few times, so that tells me that he's not in great pain.

If Minky's still doing this tomorrow I'll take him in to see the vet. Sooner if things deteriorate. He's my big ol' sweety.

Glad Minky seems a little better. Good to get him checked out if he doesn't improve today. Let us know how he's doing.

OMG, I hope I NEVER have to go through this again! :scared1::sick:

My vet had us do something similar to the above, except we first were told to have him fast for 24 hours, then feed him only white rice and boiled hamburger for 24 hours to "reset" his stomach. I think either would be fine. The important thing is that it's bland.

My vet thinks it was probably something he ate when he got into the garbage right around that time. :headache:

Shampoo the carpet.

If the dog keeps hurfuing or appears to be in any distress, take him immediately to a vet.

This used to happen to me (I have two dogs). Even though my dogs love the kennel (or day spa, as I call it!) they are both seniors and the change in routine is hard on them. I started them on probiotics, told the girls that there were no treats other than the ones I bring from home and that stopped the throwing up/squirts eipsodes.

So I swear by the probiotics for their tummies!

One of my Shepherds had a sensitive stomach. We dealt with this a lot.

NPO except water for 24 hrs, because the GI tract becomes inflammed and cannot work correctly while it's like that - everything that goes in, stays in, and shoots out. :scared1: You need to let it settle down.

After 24 hrs, a small amount of rice and chicken (some use hamburger) twice a day. After that, you can gradually, over a couple of days, add in kibble until you go back to normal diet - as long as the stool is firming up. :magnify:

Ours always got diarrhea if his routine was upset in any way. Nervous stomach, I guess. He was also pretty sensitive to any dietary changes. Perhaps your friend gave your dog some treats or something he wasn't used to eating?

As for the carpet, I dunno, that's tough. If it's a large amount, you should probably go rent a steam cleaner and clean it that way (after you've picked it up as best you can - do you have a wet vac?). Or call in a pro. If you do it yourself, you may always detect an odor. Be careful if you have your own steam cleaner, if the material gets overwet and soaks into the pad, forget it (home cleaners don't have enough suck power to really get all the liquid out).

Good luck. Poor Minky. :(
