Need some advice. We are trying to go tent camping between Christmas and Jan. the 4, it seems the Fort is booked up. What parks/resorts do you recommend near WDW for tent camping. Thanks. Also what are my odds of getting a reservation at the Fort. Do you think I ought to keep trying or make other plans.

that time of year books quickly, usually soon after the dates open

i would suggest you keep calling back for a cancellation....people always change their plans, but you will have to be patient and call often

it can be done with diligence

The only place I know of near WDW to tent camp is Lake Louisa State Park on US Hwy 27 in Cleremont. It's about 10 miles from WDW. There is also a park nearer to Universal called Turkey Lake Campground, but I don't know if they allow tents. You can "Google" them.

There is absolutely no "magical" way to get your ressies for that time of year other than to be extremely persistant. By that I mean, call multiple times a day or play around with the dates. Sometimes if you add a few days (or a week) before and after what you really want, you can snag the ressie. Then, you call CRO a few days later and cancel the days you don't need. Nobody can explain why this is, it just is.

Be diligent, and you will get what you want eventually.

Bill Frederick at Turkey Lake Park does allow tent camping. Very cheap as well.

WOW if I read it right with 6 kids you are a brave bunch for even camping let alone tent camping.

I have no idea how to help you.

Definitely keep calling, cancellations happen all the time! And call with increasing regularity as you close in on the 40 day mark, since that is the cancellation deadline for folks with packages. Calling early in the day increases your chances. Here's hoping!

:santa:

Heavens no, I don't have 6 kids just 3 and a wife. Went to the Fort on MLK day in Jan. 09 and we are trying to go back. Keep the advice going on any suggestions that we could do and any campgrounds that are in the area for tents and a family atmosphere. Disney or the Orlando tourism Board ought to pay ya'll. You guys are a wealth of information and hints/advice about the area and faster and more responsive than any csll center. Thanks again.

I think we camped near you back in January. Boy, that was alot of kids.
We're going back in January, and I hope you're able to get your reservations.
If you do, please, please, put the muffler back on the General Lee before you come down.
