I have a good friend who is quite ill and wants to take a special trip to WDW and at this point in time money is no object for her. It would be just her and an adult friend. She wants to stay somewhere that is very elegant, access to nice restaurants and yet somewhere that won't tax her physically. She cannot walk very far and tires easily. It is very important to us all that this trip does not disappoint her. I was thinking the GF concierge. Would they be sympathetic to her needs? Is there a concierge level in the main building. She wants to go in January for a week. I think we would rent an ECV for her. I have read some threads that indicated that the GF can be a big disappointment for some and that the service has slipped. If I informed them of her situation would they make sure that she was treated kindly? About what would this room cost in January? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I would go to CR. There is concierge there in the tower, the California Grill is fabulous, the rooms are huge, and the cast members are great. Not that GF wouldn't be nice, but it always seems like there is so much hustle and bustle going on over at GF, and if you steer clear of Chef Mickeys, the whole CR seems so open, no one sleeping in the lobby chairs, just a different atmoshere. I can't help with rates, sorry. And renting the ECV is a great idea. What a great friend you are.

If youre looking for elegant the Grand Floridian is it.Make sure you have the main building concierge as there is another concierge building. For a special one of a kind meal Victoria and Albert's.It is so elegant even a harpist and Citricos is there too and that is also very nice and you can travel on the monorail to the California Grill at the Contemporary.I think if you talked to the concierge staff at the GF they would go out of their way to make it special and even give you some great ideas. You might want to get a quote from an agency like Dreams Unlimited and tell them to check to see if there are AP rates.(sometimes its cheaper to buy an annual pass to get room discounts or they can quote one of the packages. They quote the same exact rates as Disney but do all the work for you. They could also give you some ideas to make it special.I hope your friend has a wonderful trip. While all the hotels are very nice the GF is definitely the most elegant.

It looks like the main bldg. at the GF is the place for your friend. I'm sure she would love the afternoon tea at the GF. Sitting in the lobby and listening to the live music is also a must. I know she will enjoy this resort.

The Main building concierge at GF would be wonderful!! The monorail will help make things easier. Also, you can talk with the concierge staff. They should be able to get a room with close access to the lounge/elevator.

I think main building concierge would be a great choice. When we stayed at SL, there was a very ill woman there with her kids. It looked to me like the concierge staff went out of their way to help her out (she was in the lounge and they got her extra blankets, brought her food etc).

I think main building concierge would be even better than Sugar Loaf.

I hope your friend's health improves and that she really enjoys her WDW vacation.

I agree, the GF might be a good choice. For the same price (or less!) than a concierge room in the main building at the GF, she might also want to consider the AKL in a suite. She'll get concierge service, Boma and Jiko are excellent restaurants, and she'll be able to watch the animals from her balcony.

The AKL is entertaining unto itself with the animals, the firepit storyteller, and more, you'd never need to leave to go to a park.

And their concierge service has pretty much become the undisputed champ at WDW.

Good luck to her, I hope she is well enough to enjoy the trip.

Anne

Thanks to everyone for your great advice. I am going to e-mail it to my friend. I think just planning her big adventure to
WDW will be good for her spirits.
