Need some advice on doing something EXTRA special at WDW!!!!

Let me first say Good for you!! Enjoy yourself, I know you will. I am planning my Dec. trip to hopefully get rid of stress we have gone through in the last year. Stress that my mother has put us through as well. What is it with mothers and daughters I just will never understand, but Disney is my light at the end of this ugly tunnel im currently in.

Now to your question, while I would love some spa treatment, I personally would opt for the shopping!! On our last trip I drove DH crazy with stopping in every store at least twice. He wanted to know if we made the trip just to shop

Well kinda!! I just love strolling around on Main Street. It is just so comforting to me. And to shop without anyone waiting for me!!
Im personally so excited to get to Once upon a Toy I can wait!!

If it's for you alone, I'd say a spa/shopping day. At least that would be MY favorite thing !

For a familyspecial event, nothing is better than renting "The Breathless" or a canopy party type boat from the Y&B Club marina and going to see IllumiNations.

We try to do something special/unique on each trip - just for a special memory. Two of our favorites have been the Illuminations cruise on the Breathless and tickets to see Cirque du Soleil. I guess these are more family events but perhaps you could fit in a special family event as well as splurge on something special for yourself. My personal private splurge is simply a pina colada on one of the swinging chairs on the beach outside the Polynesian. Have a wonderful trip!

I hadn't thought of a cruise!!! hmmmm.....

Here's why I'm torn about doing something alone. 7 days isn't THAT long (but all dh wants to take off work ) and if I do something like Keys to the Kingdom I would be away from the family for at least half the day. When we vacation we rarely split up. (yes we are one of those strange families that enjoys each others company!LOL )

BUT....DH really thinks I should take the time to do something on my own.

Thanks TINKTWINS for your encouragment! I don't know what it is about mothers/daughters...I sure hope it isn't a given though!! I have 2 daughters!!! I hate to think we are headed down the same path LOL Have a wonderful trip yourself!!!

My family is also a stay together family at WDW. I think if I had to choose a special thing to do with the hubby & kids I'd enjoy an Illuminations cruise, but the spa thing sounds really cool if you're going to do something alone. A facial or a manicure would be a treat! I always get a pedicure before a WDW trip b/c my friend owns her own business & does pedicures in people's homes. She brings all of the equipment w/ her and it is totally relaxing!
When in Feb are you going? We'll be there from the 14th til the 21st.

No ,actually we haven't done the cruise yet , I was saying it would be what I would choose. I'm thinking about it for this trip b/c the in-laws are coming too & they would probably enjoy it.

Jenn I look at it as a learning experience for sure!! I have 4 boys and 1 girl. I have a very special bond with each kid, but with her its a little different!! She is such a joy.

Hey!!! heres an idea!! Do something special with the girls, something to celebrate the mother/daughter bond!! Maybe the Tea at GF and then some shopping!

hmmmm..... I'm wondering now...anyone done one of the cruises from the monrail resorts? Now I want to do it all!!!! My thought is maybe a facial and manicue at GF (that would only be a couple of hours away from my crew. Then do a cruise on our non park day. That would eliminate the illuminations cruise.

Anyone done the others? Whatcha think?

Or should we stick to illuninations?

Maybe you could do a spa morning, and the cruise. Then you'd have a little special alone time(probably2-3 hours) and something great to look forward to with the family.

DH surprised me with the cruise for our 5th anniversary. He had wanted to rent thhe "Breathless", which is Disney's gorgeous wooden boat, but unfortunately it was out for repair, so we couldn't do that. We got one of those pontoon canopy party boats instead, which was nice too. Basically, they drive you around the Epcot waterway...you know, from Epcot, through the Y&B Club,Boardwalk area, to MGM...for about 30-45 minutes before IllumNations starts. Then you pull into the water in Epcot and sit under the bridge between France and England. When IllumiNations starts, it's like you are right there!!!! It's awesome!!!! I think DH paid like $120 for that and it was 6 years ago, so I'm sure the price has gone up. I also think they'll do food or snacks on the boat if you want. I know you have to call the Y&B Club marina directly, but I don't know the number.

Did the cruise on Easter Sunday as a birthday treat (mine) for the whole family. IT was a great experience. You do not need park admission because you leave from Yacht Club dock. The cost is still $120 unless you do the Breathless or a party on board which costs more.

In addition to the things you've listed, you could get in touch with Gifts of a Lifetime and work with Jane to arrange something special.

You might not realize this, but you can arrange to do just about anything you can imagine at WDW if you're willing to pay for it. For example: For my DH's b'day last year we had dinner catered in the executive lounge of the Coral Reef Restaurant. Then we had special seating next to the UK, right down on the water front to watch Illuminations and enjoyed his b'day cake there.

I've also been to a special party in the special viewing section of Fantasmic. It was closed off just for us and there was a dessert buffet with tables and chairs set up and then we watched Fantasmic.

I also know of a celebration that was held in that big building in front of Japan where they play the drums. You can even eat in the Haunted Mansion if you want to pay for it.

Just call the Contemporary and talk to someone in catering and ask for help in planning a special function.

I have an idea. I haven't DONE this myself, but I have heard it is absolutely fabulous, although I dont' know if you have stayed at the Contemporary before, you may have done it already.

Anyway, a couple of people I have spoken to have made dinner reservations at the California Grill during the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. Apparently you can get a great window seat AND they said the restaurant pipes in the music, so it's like your own dinner show.

Just a thought. DBF may make ressies when we go down in January. We'll be at WLV from 1/21-1/31, so we'll just miss you

I haven't found anyone going at the same time I am yet.

I have heard rave reviews about the California Grill and fireworks, but I think it might be dangerous to expect dd 5 to be good at dinner that late at night. I'm sure a lot of couples do that as a romantic getaway so to speak, I wouldn't want to ruin it for them!!!

How about having a Disney Photographer take some pictures of you and your family in the park. I am sorry that I don't know the contact number for this, but I think it would make a really memorable souvenir. Enjoy your trip!
