Please help. Due to space in our vehicle, we need to bring our little umbrella stroller to use at the parks. But I need some way to keep my 5 1/2 month old better strapped in. I'm looking for any kind of extra straps or insert or something to keep him from flopping around. I've looked online and can't find anything. Any ideas???

you could go to a fabric store and get some nylon to make a strap that could go around the stroller. which you could strap around him that would be maybe the chest area. they sell the clasps there too.

you'd just need to sew one end of the clasp to the nylon. the other part of the clasp would be able to tighten and loosen as needed.

i made a shopping cart cover and bought the nylon and clasp. i thread it thru the slats on the shopping cart and it catches around his middle.

sometimes i have to keep tightening it, but that seems like an easy fix for an umbrella stroller.

good luck!

Hello my dear sister! I can't believe you haven't jumped all over my bungy-cord idea! :confused3:rolleyes1:)

I got this great strap at Walmart a couple of years ago, but when I went to get another one this year all I could find was the bungy cords. The one I have is about 3 inches wide, made of nylon, is adjustable and has the clasp that you squeeze on the sides. It was near the automotive stuff.

OMG, I just realized where else I saw them. It's the straps you put around the luggage. When I go to Walmart tonight I'm going to see if that's where they are.:cool1:

Don't they just sink into the stroller and sit kinda like a hammock or sling? I don't get how they are flopping around? I used Umbrella strollers with my kids when they were tiny like <3 months and they just sat in it like a sling. At 6 months they should have head support so I don't get the flopping around. If you fashion straps be very careful that while you are walking they don't slip up or the baby slump down and go around their neck.

I did find those wide straps where the luggage is, and 1 inch straps where the camping stuff is. Like the PP said, I also used one when our daughter was a baby and I don't remember having any trouble with her moving around in the stroller, but then we never went any where like amusement parks. I suppose that would work using a strap, but I would make sure it was tight enough across the chest where they couldn't wiggle down and get choked. Maybe you could ask over on the Disney Tips or Family board and ask as how they secure a baby in the umbrella strollers. I know lots of people use them.

Personally I would not put a baby that little in an umbrella stroller. I don't like the squished up look, but that's just me. Why don't you head over to the budget board and try to get in on a stroller swap? That way you would have a canopy and recline too.

I think at that age I would buy a baby sling and wear the baby. If your interested just Google" baby sling" and you will find a boatload of resources and it wont take up any room in the car! Enjoy your trip!

The straps make me nervous if they aren't originally part of the stroller.

I used a double umbrella stroller at a very early age (I think 3 months was the earliest I used it) with my baby BUT it was a reclining stroller. The recline was exactly what she needed to be in their comfortable. She would have been to floppy in the upright position.

I would love to have had a umbrella stroller with straps AND recline at that age but recline definitely was handy. I can't imagine how comfortable a baby would be without that feature.

Good luck!
