We're leaving Tuesday am to visit me SIL who lives in Irvine and take the kids to DL for a few days. I was about to get 4 day Parkhopper passes from the Disney website, but my SIL just called and told me she could get them at Costco for a great price. I was under the impression (based on what MouseSavers.com says about Costco tickets) that these could only be used by SoCal residents and they will check your id at the park. She insists that's not the case, that there's some extra discount for SoCal residents, but that the 129.00 4 day passes can be used by everyone. I'm just not convinced she has her facts straight and hate to blow 500.00 on passes we can't use. Can anyone tell me if this sounds right?

I know with these passes, we may not be able to "park-hop" but that wouldn't be so bad with what we'd save.

Thanks!

If you do a search on Costco.com the passes they are selling there say you have to live within certain zip codes (assuming so cal) and ID will be checked.

Costco also sells the city passes which get you 3 days at the park....

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought, but she's really insistant that we can use the tickets. I dont want to insult her, so maybe I'll suggest she call the store before she goes.

She's also promising my kids that she's going to take them to a character meal at Goofy's kitchen, but she hasn't made a reservation and we're going July 4th week. I'm a planner and would have done that weeks (if not months) ago, but again, I don't want to insult her!

Edited to add:I just talked with her again and she thinks I'm nuts! she said her friends told her they buy these tickets for out-of town guests all the time and never heard of anyone checking ids at the gate. Now I'm really confused! It would be nice to save that $$, but I'm not sure chancing it is a good idea. She did make reservations for lunch at Goofy's kitchen Thursday. Woo hoo!!!

Two more days! Can't wait!

Personally, if my brother and SIL started insisting I could use such a thing (they are in San Diego), and I knew better and didn't want to chance it, I'd buy the tickets through disney's site. That way I have backup if/when it doesn't work, and *I think* (could be wrong, not entirely sure) the tickets you buy could be used in the future, if by chance the flouting of the rules worked.

No, scratch that, I personally just wouldn't do it, I'd buy my tickets and tell her that I'm not comfortable passing myself off as a resident. I wouldn't be comfortable with it, to just HOPE the CM didn't check my ID.

I got this off of the Costco website. I actually posted about the Disney passes at Costco also and didn't realize that it was for SoCal residents only.:confused3

Is she planning on going to the park with you? If so, that might be enough. She would have id with the proper zip code.

a friend of mine just bought one from costco...they didn't check her id. she does live here in so cal though. i think it depends on the cm at the gate? but i think if i were you, i wouldn't chance it. i would be so stressed worrying about "what if the cm checks? what if i can't use it, waste all my money, etc." :flower:

I believe that unlike WDW, DLR actually lets residents buy a certain number of tickets with one ID so if your SIL is with you then I believe yes you can use them, for up to 8 tickets with her ID.

If you want you can always call guest services and double check.

I just bought one for my nephew who is visiting from AZ. He wasn't asked for ID, and he was just asked to sign it. The CM said only he could use it, and it's not a parkhopper so if he went to 2 parks on one day, it would count as 2 entries. He got in without any problem, but there's no guarantee that will always be the case...
