My 9 year old long haired chi has a patch under her belly that she has scratched raw. Can I buy something at the drugstore to soothe it?

My vet is closed today.

Backstory-it is not just itchy "out of nowhere""...she went to the vet last week for her usual yearly, but also I pointed out a suspicious bump near one of her n i p p l e s. The vet shaved the spot so he could get a closer look. I think it is just itchy because the hair is growing back, I don't think it has to do with the bump...it never itched her before.

I would like to put some calamine lotion or something anti itch on there. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions!

My mom gives her dog Benadryl for his itching due to allergies- not sure on the dosage or if it would work. I think they have something called Hot Spot ointment, too, for patched dogs like to lick over and over. GL!

1 Benadryl will do the trick. It is safe to give a dog, and should stop the itching.

There are some steroid sprays that you can buy that will help too. Places like Petsmart will have them. You want to use them sparingly but for something like this they work great. We have some for our dog when her allergies are really bad.

Since it is so localized, you could try the benadryl spray instead of the oral kind if you wanted.

yes, I would rather it not be an oral med. I will run over to Petsmart in a second. Thanks guys!
