We are on the verge of purchasing (DH dragging his feet) and I have a question.

We are two 40+ Adults without children... or Grandchildren and are thinking about a small purchase (75, 100 pts) resale.

My question is, If we want to stay at another location one year (non-disney property) does it still go off a points system or is Cash... Exchange I think they call it ?

thank you

If you are talking about exchanging into the passport collection, you have to have enough points to cover a weeks exchange into the trading system. Be advised that the minimum points needed for an exchange is 124 points for a studio in low season.

That's what I was afraid of.... thanks

If that is what you plan on doing, perhaps get an even smaller contract and utilize banking/borrowing to do your WDW trips... then in the "off years" pay cash for your non-WDW vacations. (You'll come out better that way IMO)...

Or consider buying another timeshare for the "off WDW years". There are less expensive timeshares that are good for trading. You should be able to find some good deals on the resale market - you nearly always pay more if you buy from the developer.

As a general rule, the best value of DVC is using the points for a stay at a DVC resort.

Don't buy DVC if you plan to regularly use it for something outside of the DVC resorts - that's an expensive way to vacation!

Best wishes -

I really like that idea !!! DH and I never need more then a studio and we always travel in the off season.. Sept thru Dec. and never near a Holiday. That would work for us :thumbsup2
