Need pointers on booking a trip

I need a little help on how to go about booking a trip. I'm trying to book a surprise trip for my wife's bday (it's a milestone year for her) for this May.

We're DVC members (but no points available to use) and we also have an Annual Pass, so I know I can use those for some discounts; but via web? via phone? I did some searching and it doesn't look like the AP rates are out for May yet, so I guess I have to wait on those. Are there any other things I should look at for getting good rates? As May gets closer, I'm starting to worry about being able to get a room.

I'm mostly in the dark for how to go about this, since she's normally the one that plans the family trips. So, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Oh, and any suggestion on special things to try to setup for her BDay while we're there?

Use Dreams Unlimited to help you with Disney reservations. They are a specialist (and a DIS sponsor). We have used them and have been very pleased with the service and advice. I took my wife to the Poly for a surprise anniversary and did a four night Disney Cruise and four night Disney stay for a milestone anniversary. One thing we did was on our Poly trip was to get one of the swings on the beach and enjoyed a great evening -- MK fireworks and the water pageant on the lake.

Make sure you get a Birthday pin when you enter the parks. They are located in town hall at MK. Town hall is to the left after you go under the tunnel to the railraod. Also you can call MS and they can put you in touch with the Bakery to make a special cake. We had them make the Mickey cake and it was great. Also my family arranged a boat rental with a tour guide, birthday cake and drinks at the Wilderness Lodge for my Birthady.
