Need Point Help

Ok so here it is... I have a ressie at BWV in a 1bed standard I wanted to change it to OKW studio to save myself 139 points. Now when my husband spoke to MS they said we would have to use the points before the end of our use year June 2006. So on to my ??? When they say use the points can I use them for another ressie for after the use year or do I have to use them for a vacation that would be taken before June? They said we could only bank 9 points, I hate to lose all of those points. I had an idea to just make another ressie with the remaining points but the trip would take place after june. Please help!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure I follow what's going on correctly. A few questions may help. When is the reservation for? Were some of the points borrowed from next year?

I'm a fairly new DVC member (going on 2 years) so I might be confused and hopefully one of the really smart people on these boards will correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like some of the points were borrowed.
Once you borrow points from a succeeding year, they become points in that year and cannot be banked. So if you don't use them by the end of the use year you lose them. There is also the changing a reservation within 31 days of the ressie. If you do that the points go into a holding account and you have to use them before the end of the use year.

Are either of those involved and does that make sense?

yes you did.

It sounds like the OP did borrow their points from 2006/2007 to use in 2005/2006 time period.

get caskbill report to help you kept up with your points.

ask MS why you can't bank these points - Nov was the date of 100% banking. but 50% is until Feb 28.

Yes you would have to use them for an actual vacation before May 31st, 2006.

Lets say you have 200 points with a June use year. In June 2005 you received your annual allotment of 200 points. You used 100 for a vacation in December, this means you have to use the other 100 by May 31st, 2006 for an actual vacation or bank them by the banking deadlines.

You can't use them for a reservation after May 31st, 2006 unless you bank them.

There is some additional info we need to be sure we inform you correctly. Of the ORIGINAL BWV reservation, were all points banked or borrowed points except for those 9? Did you bank any other points from this use year? How many points do you have per year? If you haven't made the change yet, maybe you should just keep the BWV standard view 1 BW.

1. What is your contract size?
2. What is your use year month?
3. What is your home resort?
4. Given specific use years, such as 2005, 2006, etc, what points have been used for reservations?
5. Given specific use years, such as 2004, 2005, 2006, have any points been banked or points borrowed to a different year.
6. Were any banked or borrowed points used to make any reservation?

In your case it sounds like you either used banked 2004 points, or borrowed 2006 points, to make your 2005 use year reservation. That's why if you cancel that reservation, those returned points cannot be banked. Or maybe it's because you're past the 100% banking window, and already banked some points into 2006, so you can only bank 9 more.

If your BWV reservation was a mixture of banked/regular or regular/borrowed points, and you change it to OKW, then of the points returned, how many are regular points and how many are either banked points or borrowed points.

Trying not to confuse you, but the more information you can give the more we can help.

I thought I had 39 points to bank but realized after reviewing this tool that I can only bank 28 and must use 11 by May 31st. I have a non-dvc trip planed in January so I will use the 11 then and go try out the Expodition Everest ride.

okay I think I understand what everyone is saying. Let me try to answer some of the questions.

I have 270 pts. I had 100 bonus from buying a second contract
My use year is june
my home is SSR
I banked 120 pts for 05 then changed my res to a 1bed at BWV so I ended up having to borrow from the 06 use year to make the new res. I guess I have to keep my 1bed or try to rent my points. I have no idea about that so I think I am stuck. I have a 6 week old who was born very sick so there is no way I can take another trip before June.
