Need photo software recommendations

I have a really old copy of print shop (vs 12). I'm having trouble with my art gallery in it when I delete things (It says there is an error and leaves a big space between pictures. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it's still doing it. Now I can remove it with add/remove programs.

What are your recommendations for new software? I'm torn between a newer version of printshop (because I pretty much know how to work it) or switching to photoshop. Any other recommendations?
