Need Photo Mag advice

I would like to get a friend a subscription to a photography magazine. Looking for recommendations. He has a DSLR (Canon T3i). I would say he is past "beginner" status, so am looking for something that will offer more than the basics. Any help would be appreciated.

What would he want to get out of a magazine? Different publications are good for different things.

Pop Photo discusses a lot of gear and is really popular, especially with enthusiasts. I like Aperture myself because it's really just about the images. Rolling Stone is actually a great subscription for anyone who actually wants to get into studio or fashion work, as is Vanity Fair. Not for the stories, but for the images published.
