UGH! My 13 yo ds among many other issues has SID so of course clothing is an issue. Specifically pants.

Over the years he stopped wearing "hard pants" (jeans or slacks) all together. No matter how soft, fleece lined etc he cried and refuses. We then went to sweats. Now he wants sweats, no elastic around the ankles and no ties - just elastic waist.

Problem is I cannot find anything like that any more! He has Adidas track pants but they are size 7 and he needs 8. (He is also VERY small for his age - approx 50" and 50lbs)

Has anybody seen anything like this? It's not enough that the drawstring is on the outside - he wants NO strings at all. :( HELP!!

My 8 year old daughter is the same way. She won't wear anything that isn't "comfy" meaning soft material, elastic waist and no elastic at the legs. None of her pants have had drawstrings so they haven't been an issue yet.

We're in Canada so the stores we have access to may be a little different, but there is a Carters/Osh Kosh outlet near my home (where I buy most of her pants) and the last time I was in there, I noticed that they were now carrying some styles up to size 10. My daughter has only just moved into a size 6, but, until I saw that, I had been wondering what I would do once she outgrew the 6X pants (which was the largest size they used to carry). I didn't check to see what they had in the boys section (even though I have been known to puchase plain boys pants for her in the past) so I'm not sure if they would have anything that would meet all your son's criteria, but it might be worth checking into.

The other place that has worked for us is Children's Place, but again, I normally only look in the girl's department, but that might be somewhere else to look.

Is there a way to just buy a size up and have someone cut the elastic out of the ankles then hem them?

Drawstring can always be removed. Just pull it out. As to elastic in the legs. Just remove that as well.

:) What about uniform scrub pants like nurses wear. They come in different sizes so maybe an xtra small would work for him. My husband uses a Landau pair with elastic in the waist only and relaxed fit all the way down--it does have a zipper in the front. Easy care, different colors and comfy. I believe they even make childrens scrubs so that might work.

If the zipper bothers him what about buying the female type...you cannot tell the difference. Female scrub pants have an elastic waist, some with no drawstring and relaxed fit in nice colors and are very comfy.

I wear the petiteXL and they last a good while. So they have the short, average and tall lengths.

Have you looked at Sensory Clothes? I'm not sure where you are but check out these sites for ideas:

Take a look at Lands End. they usually have something like what you are looking for, but have a nicer, neater look. I like how well thier clothes fit skinny boys!

Here's another vote for Hanna Andersson. We buy them online and have them shipped to us in Canada. Our daughter's mobility disability means that she finds most pants too constricting and uncomfortable. She swears by her Hanna knits.

Another plus is that they're excellent quality, they look great, they wear extremely well, and their sizes are very consistent.

I recommended them to a friend whose son has pretty rough eczema. The seaming on most clothes caused miserable rashes for him. It sounds like Hannas have worked like a charm for him, though! He loves the flat seaming on the survivor jackets.

Walmart has several boys track sets and fleece pants sets without drawstrings and elastic cuffs.

I wouldn't necc tell him, but Hanes girls sweat pants are straight leg and no elastic at the ankles. They don't have draw strings either. HTHs!

hanna andersson is awesome for kids with SID. the prices are higher, but the stuff wears so, so well. also, sales are awesome and you can also find used stuff on ebay.

I second the Hanna Andersson vote. Our son had these same issues and they were great for him. Unfortunately, you may need to try a few brands...

Our son is husky now, and we've had success with Husky Fashions on line. Finally got him out of sweat pants! :cool1:

Target has boys fleece track pants with no bottom elastic. They shrink in length so buy a size up. My boys love them as pj bottoms.

If you get to the point where you can't find anything at all, you could try a seamstress who works out of her home. You could pick the pattern and the material yourself, getting exactly what you want, including length and fit.
