I leave for my trip to WDW in 13 days    This will be my third trip to the parks, but the first trip for the two people going with me. My female friend who's going is just as excited as I am about the trip, but my boyfriend...well, let's just say I feel like he's along for the ride because it's something I want to do.

He's more interested in history and culture (I am as well, don't get me wrong; I've been to Europe and Asia several times and loved every minute!) than in what he terms 'North American culture, which I already know about'. :confused3

I'm looking for ways to get him excited about the trip, or at least help him be a bit more open to the magic... I've tried involving him in decisions and get the answer, 'I don't care, whatever you pick is fine'. I've tried asking him if there's anything specific he wants to do. I've got a few surprises up my sleeves (Mickey's delivering some presents to the hotel so they're there for my friend and my boyfriend when we arrive, for example) but I'm out of ideas, and his lack of interest is starting to bring me down! Help!?

Hi :) First you are leaving in 13 days!!!   That is just too much excitement in itself.... Im dancing for ya
as for your bf... dont worry about it... My DH hated the idea of WDW... and when I say HATED... I mean it... That was until he got there... and now HE LOVES IT... (not as much as me but it still counts)... The thought of wdw to some people is just blah... but when you get there and get to experience it all its a great feeling...we know that and your bf will soon know that too... Just watch... You have to come back on the boards after your trip and tell me what he thought...

Okay a couple of things.... The gifts in your room is a very sweet touch... I would also get first time buttons for them both... maybe do a little romantic evening w/ your bf and leave your friend behind for one night, you can go out for a nice dinner and have a personalized menu made for just the two of you... if he is into sports check out ESPN Zone (thats fun for all).... If your into history, make sure Epcot is a place to visit and explore each country and its foods... and last but not least Just have a great time (if he is a stinker, leave him behind and go party w/ your gf!:rotfl: )

Having been married many years, I would just leave him be. Talk to him about the plans like you are, but don't push him to be too involved if you and your girlfriend have it covered.

Let him discover the magic when he gets there. If he isn't feeling it, (how could THAT happen?) just be sure to say "Sweetie, I am really looking forward to having a wonderful time at DW, so even if its not your thing, FAKE IT!":snooty:

Don't worry about it. I have known a few people who didn't care for WDW until they expeienced everything it had to offer. Maybe he'll come around.

If he's into history and culture, he should enjoy Epcot.

Thanks for the advice. Sometimes I should just listen to the little voice in my head...you all just told me precisely what I was thinking. As to Epcot, I actually told him that! I've scheduled 1 full day, and 2 half days, in that park (I love it, too, actually).

I've told them we're getting them 'First Visit' buttons...

One thing about my BF that's given me a bit of hope is that he's actually agreed to go to the MK barber shop and get his hair cut and coloured gel and pixie dust applied! :rotfl: I'm sure he's doing it just for me, but...it gives me hope!

Since you have already scheduled time at Epcot and he likes history, etc., have you considered a behind the scenes tour at Epcot on the segway? You get two hours, 1 of which is learned to drive the darn thing and then they take you around the park, when no one else is there and tell you about Epcot, which countries were originally invited, etc., After the tour you get some time to yourself on the segway then they give you a special trading pin that you only get for the tour.

My son did it last year and absolutely loved it.

Have fun.

I forgot to add that you have to schedule that in advance so you might want to call WDW and make reservations.

We're doing the Key's to the Kingdom tour. I've booked us in for halfway through our stay. I figured it'd give the two 'newbies' a chance to experience the magic before finding out how it was done. The two choices for days were the first day we get there, and the one in the middle!

I was reading this thread and saw something about the MK barbershop. Do they give "special haircuts" and how do you get them, (reservations?)

Also we are slated for the Segway tour and the Backstage magic tour. I see that no cameras are allowed, what is so secret? are they afarid that we will see something that we ar not supposed to?

Translation for Pirates
Arrhh arrrrhhhhh arh arhhh, Keelhaul the land lubber. Arrah arrrrhhh.
(national talk like a Pirate day 9-19)
