Hi!

DH and I just decided last night to take the kids (they will be 18, 15, and 5) to Universal this summer. We want to stay on property so that we will get the FOTL benefit. I do need some opinions from all you DISers!

1. Should I book two rooms instead of a suite? And if I book two rooms, can I put one in my DH's name and get him a Loews account and one in my name with my Loews account and both of them get the welcome present? Can the rooms be with a connecting door? Also, if I book 2 rooms with the current promo, I would get 4 tickets free, having to only buy one more ticket for the 5 year old. Is this a big savings? I think Disney tickets are more expensive than US.

2. Which hotel would you think would be better for our diverse group? I am a huge Hard Rock fan, been collecting the pins for years and have been to the hotel before to "look around", but have not seen any of the other hotels up close and personal.

3. Will there be enough for my 5 year old to do? He is barely 39" now (I'm considering putting stuff in his heels for when we go to WDW next month!). It has been so long since I have been to US or IOA. I didn't even have kids then (the two older ones are my DH's from a first marriage) so I didn't pay any attention really.

4. Do you think 4 nights/5 days will be enough time?

Thanks for all your help! If you lived close, I'ld invite you over for homemade cheesecake!

1 you could do that to get the gifts but i think only one room will get the credit for the time you stay and you may have to ask about the second room cause if they both are under the same name for reservation they may still only give ya two free tickets.
2 all the onsite hotels are great from what I hear and it depends on your budget cause the rpr is the cheapest , the hrh I think your 18 and 15 and you and dh would like don't know about your 5 year old and the pbh is the most costly but worth it. and also all the hotels onsite encourge pool hopping.
3 yes cause there is suess landing and the kidszone barney and others so there will be enough for him to do
4 yes 4 days and five nights is plenty cause we went in june and did all we wanted in that amount of time and the best thing about stayin onsite is you can come and go as much as you like without having to drive to an of site hotel and only staying a short time.
Hope this helped and there are other that can correct me if I got anything wrong and just rember have a great time.:woohoo:

1. Should I book two rooms instead of a suite?

This is what we have done for our Dec trip. We have 2 rooms booked and will request a connecting door a few days before we arrive.

And if I book two rooms, can I put one in my DH's name and get him a Loews account and one in my name with my Loews account and both of them get the welcome present?

This I don't know but I will know after Dec. I booked both rooms in my name with my Lowes First and intend to ask about the welcome gift for each room. I mean we are paying for both rooms so why shouldn't we get one for each room.

Can the rooms be with a connecting door?

They do have connecting rooms because the room we had in Sept had a connecting door available. How often you get it when you request I don't know though. I intend to ask this Dec and we are arriving really early so that we can ask again when we check in.

Also, if I book 2 rooms with the current promo, I would get 4 tickets free, having to only buy one more ticket for the 5 year old. Is this a big savings? I think Disney tickets are more expensive than US.

Yes and no. It's not a great rate for the room since we found the Super Saver rate was lower by enough that we chose to use that and buy the 87.00 7 day ticket that is available right now. Then we decided to make a second trip and it was an even better saving to get an AP and use the AP rate for the room. We got 2 rooms at RPR for 805.00 for 5 nights. Dec 12-17th. Dec 22-27th is showing 820.00 for APH and that's Christmas !!!. HRH is about 100.00 more per room than RPR. At least it was with the APH rate.

2. Which hotel would you think would be better for our diverse group? I am a huge Hard Rock fan, been collecting the pins for years and have been to the hotel before to "look around", but have not seen any of the other hotels up close and personal.

We loved the HRH when we were there in Sept but we didn't have our kids. This Dec we are bringing the kids and staying at RPR. It has more of a tropical theme. We toured it while we were there in Sept to make sure it appealed. We are looking forward to that visit too. I think either hotel is great. We never saw the other one so can't say what that is like.

3. Will there be enough for my 5 year old to do?

We took our 2 yr old in Sept and she got to go on a few rides and enjoyed seeing the characters. Plus the little water spray areas where fun for her. I think your 5 yr old will find plenty to interest him. The pool areas at the resort are really nice too.

5 days is plenty of time. The parks are not as large as Disney and are easier to navigate since they go in a circle and you can walk around the whole park in 30 mins. No little side streets that you need to detour on or miss rides and attractions.

Thanks for all your help! If you lived close, I'ld invite you over for homemade cheesecake!

Hope that helps some !
