We all know about the new dining system not allowing us to book at the 180day mark like we used to. So, that's got me doubting some of my earlier thoughts.

We have a pretty picky son who will be 12 years old. He doesn't like anything with lots of sauce or gravy.

I'm wondering how we would like Ohana's dinner.

Any thoughts or pics?

DH and I loved it! Great food and a fun atmosphere

I think your son will like it.

While the meats are spiced/marinated, they aren't overly saucy. Sauces are kinda served on the side.

'Ohana is now our favorite restaurant!!

I think your DS will probably like it. They bring around hunks of meat on skewers and give you what you want, so no gravies on them.

I know I am in the minority, but when we were there on our last trip, we tried Ohana for the first time and I didn't think it was that great. It was probably my least fav of our TS meals. The rest of my party seemed to like it, but I probably won't go back. I have since seen pics on this site that show stuff I didn't see there, so maybe I ordered wrong or something? The side dishes were just blah, and I'm not picky.

That said, you should def try it. You will probably love it like most others!

Thanks for the opinions so far. You would think being from Louisiana, our son would love sauces and gravies. That's what we thrive on! :rotfl:

I guess we are just stuck in a rut because we always seem to eat at the same places every year. I just wanted to try something new.

Anyone else?

We love it there. I don't know at what age they cut them off from ordering off the childrens menu but he could possibly do that. My kids all ate at least a little something there and they too are picky.

I really enjoyed it! It is a fun atmosphere...they have a few activities for kids in the evening too. The skewers of meat are pretty good and there is a wide variety of choices, so it should be good for a picky eater!

I'm a vegetarian and they are really accommodating to me! My family and friends also love this restaurant - the atmosphere is great!

We love 'Ohana. It has become a tradition for us on our arrival night.

My kiddies love it. All the meat is very plain and the sauces are great too!

My DD ordered chicken this year and fries (I think!) and I know she ate a lot of fries...

'Ohana is a great place, and you all will have a good time there as well. love it!:goodvibes

They will also let you order pb&j for your child--I think it comes with fries too. My son did this the last time we went to Ohana---we just had to ask our waiter...hope this helps!

Anything they have in the building, they'll get for you to eat. My mom came with us just a couple weeks ago, and she eats no meat (or pretty much anything they serve). They brought her a huge bowl of buttered noodles and huge tray of fruit. Just mention to the server and they'll accomodate to get what your DS needs.

Ohana's is going on our "must do" list for fiuture trips. We finally went for the first time on thae last nite of our stay last Thursday. I have a 16 y/o DS and a 12 y/o DD. Both were thrilled!
Pineapple bread is followed by salad, followed by honey stcky chicken wings and potstickers, followed by lo-mein noodles, followed by perfectly grilled huge shrimp, tender, medium cooked steak kabobs, prok slices and turkey - also grilled. Neither one of them did the sauces - forgot they were on the table. We got more noodles, steak and shrimp and an extra order of warm towels for OCD son.
DD ate in between the hula lessons, dancing and coconut races, then came back for the banana pineapple bread pudding with ice cream and caramel sauce. The chef made a special desssert fo rme since I am allergic to pineapple in large amounts - tho I tried the bread pudding anyway and it was absolutely the best!!!
My kids and I loved it! Why did we wait so long to get to Ohana's in the first place???:confused3

I think you should go - lots of familiar foods for kids!!:thumbsup2

Ohanas was our first dinner last week. Our ADR was for 8pm but it was 8:50 when we got in- we had to wake 2 of our 3 kids who had fallen asleep while waiting. I have one who's very picky and 2 that will try almost anything. The food was good, though not in abundance like has been reported in the past. We didn't even see the shrimp or the turkey until we were leaving. The pork was excellent- the beef way too rare for me, though my husband loved it. The sauces were good- there are 3 to choose from. The noodles were very good and my daughter ate mostly potstickers because she liked them so much. There are also bbq chicken wings which were very tasty. I think there were vegetables, but not 100% sure. If so, they weren't memerable. Dessert was better than I thought it was going to be. For our picky one, the kitchen made chicken nuggets, which he thought was good. Our waiter gave the kids the special drink cups with the light up tink and c.Cook, even though they weren't on the dinning plan. He saw how upset we were to wait so long for a table. Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. We were able to see Wishes fireworks from our table and the kids perked up playing the coconut games and hula, but next time I know not to make it our first night stop. After a long day of travel and park time, we couldn't really appreciate it. Plus the long wait time was miserable. We'll do it again, but I'll be wiser next time to get an earlier ADR.

We had dinner there last Thursday. We were seated 30 minutes before our ADR and it was pretty dead in there. However, it took forever to get our food. It's the first time we've been where service was so lacking. It took even longer for dessert. The noodles and potstickers were great. The turkey and pork was a little dry this time but the steak and shrimp were yummy. We had fun dipping the meats into the sauces to see which was best. I was surprised by how much I liked the bread. Stay away from the broccoli. It was cold and not seasoned at all. The server felt bad about the wait so she brought us brightly colored leis and a special cupcake to go for our anniversary. So at least it ended on a high note.

Absolutely the BEST dinner of our 8 nights in Disney! So much fun for the kids and the food was fabulous, especially the dessert! Our kids order off the kids menu, no problem. They had chicken nuggets and fries, but still nibbled at some of our food since it was served family style.

We're from LA too, and all of our friends that have been there have said it's their FAVORITE. So now this time we have to go there and try it out. It didn't take a lot of convincing for my dad once he found out it involves eating as much meat as possible... What part of LA are you from?
