So...I've been inpatient for 19 days so far....but we are hoping to go home today...yay!

But this hospitalization.....I have ad the best nursing and CP staff EVER. I now know why this hospital ranks top for nursing. They are amazing.

I have had about 13 different nurses or so and about 8 different CPs. Ony 1 or 2 have been less than fabulous. They werent "bad" thy we're just not as good as others.

The thing is, I want to bring something for both the day shift and night shift when I come back for follow ups next week.

I am definitely going to bring a card for everyone to thank them but I want to do something else but I am at a loss for ideas.

We do have this thing called circle of friends where you can make donations for exceptional care and we are going to make a donation to the hospital and it will be because of the exceptional care of these individuals.

In addition, we will be writing a letter to the floor nursing supervisor naming each person individually ( we got everyone's names) so that the supervisor knows how wonderful her staff is.

I want them to get the recognition they deserve.

But I still want to bring something next week to thank them personally.

Any ideas?

After I finished my round of chemo, my parents went out and bought giant trays of food for everyone in the cancer clinic - sandwiches, fruit, veggies, dessert, etc. They all really seemed to love that.

If you are thinking food, I would have it delivered directly from a restaurant/quick service place. Some may not be comfortable eating something made from someone's kitchen, or it could be against policy to do so. Maybe consider chik-fil-a, panera bread/SF Bread Co, Heavenly Ham, etc. Maybe send a couple of fruit baskets or those fruit bouquets or something from Harry & David?

I would do a cookie tray, Everyone loves cookies, plus there no hassle you can eat it on the go.

DS17 was in PICU in December and the while we were there the nurses were delivered buckets of flavored popcorn from a former patient and they went on and on about how good it was, and how it was nice to have a snack they could grab when they had a chance.

We always like Edible Arrangements or cheese or veggie platters.

I was thinking edible arrangements, there is one right around the corner from the hospital

It's just a little something additional. Most important in my opinion though is that they get recognized for how amazing they are.

Its just amazing how surprised and how grateful they seem when I say please and thank you. I was raised to say thank you whenever someone does something for you even if it is their Job and i was raised to say please wheneevr i ask for something. That includes when i am asking for things like my medication or another blanket, etc. it doesnt matter to me that t is their job....its the polite and right thing to do. And it just amazes me how a lot of people treat nurses.

Those giant popcorn tins....everyone seems to love popcorn. :)

Oh....I forgot about those things. I love those popcorn tins!! Great ideas everyone. Thank you

I think the top two right now are edible arrangements and the popcorn tins.

The only downside to the edible arrangments you are going to need a lot for two shifts. That can get costly

I would bring some kind of platter of food and some drinks to go with it. Sandwiches, chips and bottled waters or maybe a breakfast one with fruit, muffins, bagels, coffee and juice, etc.

We're willing to spend a lot for this. We never would have been able to make it through these19 days without them. They made it so much more bearable. And they really helped keep my spirits up. They are all just so sweet and so kind and exactly what nurses should be. They were all made for this job.

Before this, the longest I was ever in the hospital at once was 7 days after my craniotomy. My stays are usually only between 4-7 days. This was 3 times that and with s much unanswered and so many unknowns they went above and beyond to make sure I was okay.

As a nurse I think it is very kind of you to want to send a treat to acknowledge the staff that took good care of you :thumbsup2. It never happens where I work, even when we do manage to make a few people happy. I would not get popcorn. The thought of everyone's hands going into the tin isn't pleasant. Cookies, bagels, pizza, or something like that would be great :).

I didn't think about that with the popcorn. Good point. Thanks!

I have a little while to decide. I'm not coming back for a follow up until next Thursday.

I think the cookie trays or edible arrangements are a great idea. But most of all I just wanted to say I'm glad you are feeling better! For someone so young, you've had a tough road to travel with health issues, and it's wonderful that you are so sweet and grateful to your doctors and nurses :goodvibes

I think the popcorn idea or something a bit on the healthful side would be most-loved...fruit tray, veggie tray, sandwich tray, etc. Or maybe bagels and coffee.

Glad you have had good care during your stay!

I was sooo relieved that this wasn't another "let me tell you about my really serious medical condition that I haven't gotten any treatment for yet....and tell me what you think...." type thread!!!

IMO edible arrangements are gross. All that fruit on spears with everyones hands reaching in and depositing dead skin flakes. Even worse a hospital where germs permeate the air.

I don't do buffets either though.

Get something that is wrapped.

Maybe I just think too much about some things

Hahaha....no....I have 10 doctors to consult instead... however, I do like using these boards once diagnosed or during the process of testing to find people who have gone through similar things

OT: But just found out I might not be going home today :/ found an abnormality on a blood test last night...doing some follow up labs today.

But I was thinking about something healthy along with maybe something less healthy. Luckily they have a good cafeteria and a good sit down cafe (they do take out orders) so I know they do eat pretty well here (if they get the chance!). But that's why I was looking for something "fun"

We do have good kosher and new York delis around here where I could get a very good bagel platter so that's a thought as well.

all great ideas thanks!
