Okay now I know for some it's just not even possible to camp at FW.

But say you could.

All Stars is booked for the time we are going anyway, but I'm curious.

We got an annual pass rate of $348.00 for 7 nights at a preferred camp site. Water, elec, sewer, cable hook ups.

That's less than $50 a night. We are new at camping and will be using a tent. I hear that FW is the BEST place to camp.
And if we went with a regular site it would be even cheaper. Like about $35 a night.

All Stars if avail would be $70 a night.

Anyone else ever think about camping?

We are really looking forward to it and we have decided even if All Stars was avail we would still go the camping route.

Gotta shop for my patio lights now. :pinkbounc :pinkbounc

We've done a lot of camping and did consider it once...but figured we wanted air conditioning...can't imagine what it would be like not being able to get out of the heat to sleep. But I guess it would depend on the time of year. I'd still rather stay at the All Stars than camp...even at double the price.

Our first three trips to the world were at the campgrounds. Twice in a converted van (we were barely out of our hippie stage) and once in a pop up with our kids. If you like to camp (and we do), it is a great place! After state parks it was really nice with the laundry facilities so handy the the air conditioned showers. Everything is so clean and there's so much to do.

We then graduated to the cabins at FW and now on to the other resorts, but I wouldn't trade those first few trips for anything. We created a lot of great memories.

My family and I have always stayed at the campground and would never think about staying anywhere else!!!! We all love the campground. Me at 18, my boyfiend at 19, and my two brothers and my sister all at age 13 along with my mother.
We like the fact that we can make our own meals and do not have to eat out for every meal (which also saves money). My mom asked if we wanted to stay at a hotel one year and we all said that we would rather not go thats how much we like the campground.
We stay in a pop-up. Unless you plan on staying at your campsite a lot you really don't need the cable. There is so much to do I really don't think that its worth the extra money. And if you are going in a tent you don't need the sewer either.
We always go in Aug and the nights a really not that bad. Just plug in a fan and you are good to go or sleep

Hope this helps you some in your decision.

Did you know there is a whole camping board here on the Dis. ?Those guys know everything. The Ft. Wilderness campground is one of the best, rated 10/10/10. It is beautiful. The *** are fun too. They really are different experiences. Have fun. :D

The atmosphere at FW is unlike any of the other resorts. Laid back and friendly. The kids will enjoy the campfire, hayrides, electrical water pagent, biking and the petting farm. The one advantage to the preferred loops is that they are located in the back of the campground near the marina and Pioneer Hall. Having stayed at the other resorts have to say I really feel like we are getting away when we stay at FW. As others have stated FW is unlike anyother campground you have stayed at.

Disneycrazymom, yes I know about the camping board, thanks. :)

Grumpy92 Thanks for all you info and advice on the Camping Board! :)

I was just asking so maybe others who had not thought about it, may. You can't beat the cost!
We are also DVC members and this will be a big change from the 1 bedroom we had at OKW in Feb.

Just trying to squeeze in another trip on our Annual passes.

And to see if I got any responses like DisneyLisa's

Or someone telling us we're crazy! :jester: Which we very well may be!

I would like to say that the folks on the DIS boards are the best.

I got a private email with lots of tips and suggestions from a seasoned camper and fellow board member.

Thank you Spirit Feather!:)

I know you will have a good time. Have you thought about the Wilderness Cabins? It is more then a campsite but not as much as OKW and not as far of a step down. You are not crazy for wanting to save money. Some think we are crazy for wanting to camp. They just dont know what a great place FW is. We love just walking through the campground and watching the other guest, sometimes we dont even go in the park.
