need one more inch...

I read a lot of posts that point out that the height limit is for safety, but honestly do you feel that 1/16 of an inch really matters when it comes to making a ride safer or not?

I have work at an amusement park and had to reject "small" adults while leaving tall 4 year olds on a rollercoaster, I am sure the adults would have been a lot safer and better able to handle the ride than the tall youngster.

I am sorry, but I see no problem buying higher shoes or stuffing them to get that extra 1/4 of an inch to ride the ride.

I think this comment was a little far fetched..
Think about it..................... If ONE INCH could mean life or death for ANY rider, I don't think that ride would be around long enough to even make it to a park! Remember, she is talking about an INCH or LESS....... It is not like she is trying to pass her for 6" taller than she is!! I don't think there is a need to jump on the OP for this!

And this is why our country is going down the tubes. Kids dont respect adults, kids shooting kids in school, why? Because bleeding hearts took away power from the schools to discipline a child that is in their care for 8 hours a day, and parents that spoil their children.

Lets take your quote :
If One inch means life or death....
So if the ride height is 40", you feel that if your kid or anyone elses should be able to get on at 39"?

So lets lower it to 39", now you think that a kid with 38" should be able to ride, and so on and so forth until there is no height requirments, and your child ends up dead like the child on Misson Space. That mother thought her 4 year old was ok to go on that ride, and if memory serves, that kid passed the height restrictions.

The old expression is true.. Give an inch take a mile.

Just remember Disney did not make up these rules for giggles, they are just trying to run a company without dumb *** parents suing them everytime they turn around, because they snuck a kid on a ride that should not have been there in the first place.

Thank you.

WOW!...Uh, it's just a ride.

Maybe this thread should be closed as the fun of it seems to be gone. You'd think I posted a comment about reusing mugs or those darn motorized scooters!

Wow... I can't believe I'd see "tricks" like this from Disers.

During my training at Splash Mountain for measuring heights we were instructed to use the measuring stick but then to ALSO CHECK SHOES/HAIR.

So, to those of you suggesting taller shoes - Don't do it.

Adding an inch, two inches, 1/4 inch to your child's "height" puts them in danger.

One parent actually stuffed their child's shoes with ice cream sandwhiches.

If you're daughter's too short to ride this year, please try again. IT'S FOR HER OWN SAFETY!!! Thunder's not going anywhere, it will always be there.

I am just really, really shocked to see "tricks" like these from Disers... :(

Exactly how was this a "fun" thread? You now heard from a Disney cast member, so hopefully that will help you to decide what's the right thing to do. :thumbsup2

Yea,just risk the life of your child, because she is not tall enough yet. Heck why put her in a carseat or seat belt because she be unhappy. those height rules are there for a reason. What really kills me is people will sue if there child gets hurt on a ride that they lied about to get on.whoo, I fill better now that i said that. just follow the rules :thumbsup2

Paula, I agree with you. It's just not worth the risk of potential harm to a child, even if it is a small risk. The rules are there for your child's safety and in my opinion (yours may differ), it is wise to follow them.
:thumbsup2

Although the topic may not be fun, I think it is "fun" to post a question on the boards and check back periodically to see if anyone has taken time to respond.

I enjoy the humorous suggestions that are left. I even like the harmless banter between posters of differing opinions. The anonymity of these boards offer an opportunity to speak your mind that might not happen in the real world.

I even like the smilies that are left in a post. :wave2:

I think the whole process is fun and I suspect you do too or you would not have as many posts as you do.

Now, having said that, when it comes to fudging my daughters height to ride Soarin'...I guess we will wait until she hits the bar. I still do not believe that there is a real difference between the safety of a rider that is 41 inches versus a rider that is 39 1/2 inches. I would submit that health related issues are more inportant than height, ie. heart conditions, pregnancy, etc. I would even suggest that maturity level is more vital than height as your daughter may sit still during a ride better than mine therefore endangering herself less. I just think that if height were so important there would be more varied requiremants rather than the 35, 40 and 44 inch majority. So thank you to all who sent me a concerned PM. I am sorry that I worried you.

Feel free to say hello if anyone is there the last week of this month. I will be the dad with the adorable three year old, dripping one of those twisty colorful popscicles down the front of the Cinderella gown, waiting for her brother and sisters to finish their ride.

Good question! :thumbsup2

Ice cream sandwiches in a kid's shoes -----> :cold:  :crazy2: :scared: :lmao:

Sandy -

:) That really made me smile.

I was appalled when I saw this happen. The little boy was crying and he wasn't walking right and I just knew something was up because the father kept shooting the boy this "keep quiet" look. And then I look down, and no lie, there was vanilla ice cream coming out of his shoe.

I just looked at the dad and said "He's still not going to be able to go on Splash Mountain. I believe there is a gift shop, though, with flip flops for your little boy." And then I proceeded to give the boy a card that says he'll be able to go on the ride next year and can use the card in the FP line. What a day that was!

I recommend purchasing an old medieval rack and stretching her out a couple of times. You should get that inch :thumbsup2
Don'tcha think that's a little drastic? ;) I was going to suggest holding her upside down by her feet every day for about ten or fifteen minutes, then doing it again in an unobstrusive area inside the park, just before entering the BTMR queue... stretch her naturally :)

Think about it..................... If ONE INCH could mean life or death for ANY rider
How about the difference between safety or possible injury? If you're below a certain height, even on a relatively benign restricted ride like BTMR, either your feet won't touch the floor or you have to sit forward for them to reach. Either way, it's not particularly safe as determined by the ride designer/manufacturer. Heck, I'm five feet tall and I slide around on that ride!

That's what I was thinking, an inch isn't that much difference, and if it did, it wouldn't be a ride even I would be riding.
Well, but where do you cut it off? Forty inches is just an inch taller than thirty-nine inches, what difference will it make? Oh, okay, thirty-nine inches - well, thirty-eight inches is SO close to that, what difference does an inch make... and eventually you're down to two feet. (note: response written before reading a similar one, above ;))

I read a lot of posts that point out that the height limit is for safety, but honestly do you feel that 1/16 of an inch really matters when it comes to making a ride safer or not?
What we feel ultimately doesn't matter; it's what the attraction manufacturer determines that counts!
