My DH and I want to take the kids on a road trip to New York City from north Florida next spring, we want to make a stop for a few days in D.C. to see some sites also.I have no idea where to start on this...we will rent a mini van for the trip.I think we can figure out the drive and the D.C. part but I know it will be a pain figuring out the NY stuff. We want to stay somewhere so we can not have to drive in the city,we want to see the statue of liberty and maybe the 9/11 memorial ...we also want to take the kids to a broadway show ( hopefully the lion king or something).I need all the advice I can get! lol
I would like to stay at a hotel that we can take public transit to all the sites we want to see.

I had a friend recently stay at the Yotel. She said it was very clean and hip. The rooms were small, but very modern and her high school grad loved it!

Parking in the city is going to run you $30 or more a day even if you just leave it in a garage. Maybe you could take the train into the city and not even take the car.

I've only ever taken the train from Baltimore, but I know you could catch it in NJ. If you're going to DC, why don't you just get on a train in Baltimore and then you wouldn't have to worry about driving anymore. That might be nice considering how many hours you're going to be in the car...

The Lion King is fantastic, one of my sister's former students plays Young Simba, Judah Bellamy. Newsies is supposed to be awesome, but I don't know how long the run is. It has been extended. Wicked is good too. Get tickets as soon as you have your dates locked in.
