My treadmill is on its last leg...speeds up and slows down unexpectedly...a little unnerving, to say the least. I keep picturing going flying off of it and knocking out my teeth.

I need a new one. Basically, I walk on it, at about 4 - 4.5 MPH. I don't need a CD player, etc like some have. Just need to walk inside the house. When we bought the first one, someone recommended getting at least 2.0 HP. I'd also like a fold up one. Anything else I need to know?? Anyone have one that they can recommend? There's probably been improvements in them since we purchased ours in 1991 or so...but like I said, I don't need it to do "tricks".

Thanks.

Hi Mare! I just wanted to pop in & say hi. DH & I took our Princess to WDW 2 weeks ago. We talked about y'all as we crossed the bridge in AK. ;) Maybe we'll see y'all again one of these days.

Take care & say hi to "Just Dave" & the kids for us.

I just went through this about a month ago. Our 10-12-year-old treadmill pretty much just STOPPED.

I ended up getting a Nordictrack EXP 1000xi. Not the absolute least expensive one they have, but a lot closer to the lower end of their models. It doesn't have a whole lot of bells & whistles, but DD and I absolutely LOVE it! I think it's 1.75 hp with a 250 lb. maximum weight capacity. If you stay around the 4.0 - 4.5 mph, you probably don't need 2.0 hp; but if you use it primarily for running, rather than walking or speed walking, you might.

What I really REALLY love about it is that it is iFit compatible. You can get videotapes or CDs to walk to. You connect your VCR or CD player to the treadmill via an audio cable. Then you either watch the video tape or listen to the music and it automatically signals the treadmill to change speeds and/or incline to give you a better workout. I love the Hawaii video tape -- a little hokey at times, but a nice workout and I don't have to worry about changing the speed, etc. The tapes and CDs come at different fitness levels. There is also a website (www.iFit.com) that you can use if you hook your computer to the treadmill; it will give you a "personalized" workout plan. (It's free for 30 days, then there is a fee to continue.)

The treadmill also has a few basic programs built in that you can use.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions!
