Need new mattress purchase suggestions.

We need a new mattress. After 10 days in WDW, we LOVED the mattress on our bed. I stripped off the sheets on the last day and found it to be a Sealy Posturpedic 720 Encore Plush (I don't know the significance of the 720). I'm pretty sure we'll be buying on line since there are no mattress stores in our area. Any recommendations? Will we have to buy the whole set or is it OK to buy just the mattress? I've got a very bad lower back (thanks to sciatica and degenerated discs), so I imagine I need a firm mattress, and from what I've read so far, no pillowtop. I'd appreciate any guidance.

We bought a Shifman mattress set. It's the most comfortable bed I've ever been in. I love a firm mattress and ours is a double sided pillow top, and find it very firm. I know they offer beds without pillow top though. The faq section of their website answers your question about the need of a box spring.

I would never buy another brand again. That's how happy I am with it. Hopefully it will be a long time before we need to buy another set.

If you can do get a Sleep Number bed it is the best thing I ever bought for myself ! If someone told me I had to choose between my car and my bed I would call Mercedes and ask them where to drop the car off. Yep it is that GOOD

Do you have department stores in your area? The reason I'm asking is that I can't imagine trying to buy a mattress without testing it out. Although, the Sleep Number one would probably be a good option for ordering online since you adjust the firmness yourself.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It looks like I'll probably have to buy a new box spring also.
