Need new kitchen appliances(dishwasher) stainless vs. black?

I put all white appliances in our house when we built in 2000. Two years ago we re-did the kitchen (new porcelian tile floor, new Corian countertops, slate backsplash, new slider in breakfast nook). I kept my autumn maple cabinets that I really love. We did the appliances too because white just looked so outdated with the rest of the kitchen. We decided to go with stainless steel. I really like them. They have not scratched, and I have 3 kids. We have a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher and microwave range. The oven I got Kenmore. It came with more stuff than the Whirlpool Gold for the same price. Granted, it's more "stuff" than I actually use. :rotfl: If you go with different brands, you have to be careful that the stainless matches. Whirlpool and Kenmore do, but I saw some that were more "brushed" looking and would not have matched.

Finally I was talking to an interior designer and she asked me, "Why not white?" and I said, "I don't know, I didn't even think about it as an option." Well, we went with white appliances, beige tile countertops, light hardwood floors and a maple cabinet and it looks awesome. I love it because it doesn't look like, "Ohhhh, a remodel done in early 2000's", you know...it's not dated and I felt the black or stainless would have dated the look.

Most people don't consider white because white is considered "so 90's" in alot of parts of the country. Around here you can not sell with out Stainless in some areas black is acceptable but in general I think white is not in fashion so many won't consider it. I personally don't like white but do like bisque but bisque is out.

funny, but i like bisque best also:thumbsup2 . IMHO, black/white/bisque appliances tend to blend into any kitchen, forming more of a backdrop for interesting details & good quality materials (hardwood floors, beautiful woods, etc). stainless looks too cold/industrial for our tastes.

while SL is still "in", for a little fun, take a look look at the new colored appliances. (yes, some are extremelly expensive, but once the colors have been out for a bit, will trickle down to the more reasonably priced brands).

some interesting ones:
jenn-air has come out with an interesting oiled bronze, as well as beautiful red, deep blue, & amber .
viking has graphite (termed the "new black"), blue, forest, burgundy, & plum (some with brass trim)
heartland & aga have also started new color lines.
& just b/c i like it ;) :

most importantly, enjoy whatever you decide upon :)
