Need New Kitchen Appliances - Any thoughts?

We are finally getting around to doing something to our kitchen now that only one burner works on the stove top and the sink leaks!

In order to replace either of those items we had to replace the countertops and then to put in a new refrigerator we would have to cut a bigger hole... you know how that goes - we're now refacing the cabinets and having some new cabinets built over the refrig.

Any thoughts would be appreciated on good appliances. We need an over the stove microwave w/vent (possibly a convection oven combo), small 18 in. dishwasher, built in stovetop and built in 24 in. oven. It's making my head spin looking at all of these.

Anyone out there with recent purchases of any of these items I would appreciate your expertise :) We were thinking of going to Sears but are open to anything. They just need to be here in three weeks. Thanks!

In our new house we have GE profile dishwasher, range and convection oven/microwave over the range. The frig is a Kenmore french door style with the freezer on the bottom. Everything is brushed stainless. We haven't gotten around to using everything but it sure does look nice and according to Consumer Reports they're high quality.

BTW, I'd definitely go to Sears. We got our washer, dryer and frig from them with a no interest/no payment for 18 month deal. They always have sales and can deliver very quickly.

Did Sears install the applicances for you? Also, do you like the convection oven? We're really considering this since we have such a small wall oven.

We have maytag dishwashers, a jenn-aire stove top drop in, a frigidaire wall convection wall oven and a sub-zero fridge. All work great. We love the convection oven, but we are getting a service call (1st in about 10 years) since it seems to be a little low on the setting and we got an error code last Saturday. All the appliances work great. I would not do the fridge unless you were doing a complete kitchen makeover.

For dishwashers consumer reports likes KitchenAid, Bosh and Kenmore for the most part.
A big thing with dishwashers is how quiet do you need it to be and do you like the bells and whistles (adjustable racks etc...)
Bosh dishwashers are incredibly quiet -but do not have a food grinder-they have a filter that you have to wash off every once in a while.
I am redoing a kitchen and I am using fridgidare cook top and built in micro and oven. Kenmore dishwasher.
One thing about Sears is if you need service -they are not going to drop everything and come out -it might take a week or so to get an appointment.

I would consider getting an online subscription to Consumer reports. You can look up all past reports on appliances.
Also this forumgarden web has loads of discussions on kitchen remodels. But many there tend to buy high end.

I've only used the convection once and it worked really nicely. It came with a cookbook that explains things really well. Sears installed the frig, washer and dryer. The other appliances were installed by our builder. Sears does do installation on all its appliances though.

Find out how long the cycle is for the dishwasher. We bought a top of the line Meile and didn't ask...it has a normal wash and dry cycle of close to 2 1/2 hours. :sad2:

Thanks everyone! Would love to hear more....

How good is Sears about coming out on time to install the appliances?

They were scheduled to come to us between 1-3 and around 1 they called to say they were running about 2 hours late. They got to us around 3:30 so that isn't too bad.

We have a Maytag dishwasher w/3 racks---I thought it'd be a waste until I actually used it. Now I can't live without that 3rd rack! Also have a Maytag Gemini double oven--I love it too. Both ovens get a lot of use here.

We ended up with a Kenmore french door fridge---love the fridge, hated the Sears delivery people. They left my new fridge out in the pouring rain until I complained (they could've just as easily brought it into my living room or even under the porch if nothing else!) & then gouged my kitchen wall pretty good getting it in there. Not to say they're all like that, but I doubt I'd ever have Sears deliver anything for me ever again.

When replace out dishwashers again, I think I will look into the new drawer dishwashers. I have not done any research on them, since I am not in the market now.
