Need new dishwasher. Any suggestions?

Another vote for Bosch. It is so quiet that you have to look for the red light on the floor to know it's running.

at lowes. It is the middle end model stainless interior. On sale from $799 to $599. I was suprised at how much dishwasher prices had increased since we bought our last one. I could replace my oven for $799. Price was definetly the selling point, as I know that we will need to replace other appliances soon since my fridge has also been acting up. The Bosch appliances are really nice but at least $100 dollars or so more. It does not have a delay feature so I will have to remember to turn it on as we usually run it later in the evening. Well, at least we use to since our old one was so loud we couldn't hear the tv. The salesperson said they have been selling alot of the Kitchenaid as it seems to be the model where stainless, quietness and lower price meet. I hope I like it and thank you everyone for your input.

I got a Bosch a few months ago and hate it! It cleans great and is really quiet, but nothing fits right in it. I have to either wash a lot by hand because it won't all fit or run it twice a day.

We're in the market for a new dishwasher as well. We have a bottom of the line Whirlpool that the builder installed 7 years ago. It doesn't fit things very well - especially bowls - and it does a poor job of cleaning.

We don't need stainless, so I'm hoping to get the best value of an appliance that actually cleans dishes!

No, they don't come out dry, but when we bought it, they suggested we crack open the door after it shuts off to help them dry quicker. I usually don't do this as I don't like the steam. The regular wash cycle takes roughly 100-115 minutes, so I run it at night and don't take them out until the next morning. I still have to dry them with a towel, although they have drip dried to some extent by then. I don't think it would be any different with plastic items, but as I said, I don't usually crack open the door.

Before Bosch finally agreed to repair ours, I thought I was going to have to buy another dishwasher. After researching it, I decided my choices were to switch to Kitchenaid or buy another Bosch, despite the problems we'd had.

Who told you to open the door to let the dishes dry? Bosch dishwashers use condensation drying, which relies on leave the door CLOSED. It does take several hours after the cycle completes, but my dishes come out totally dry. I wash a lot of plastic cups and plates and the plates are always dry. The cups usually have a little bit of water on the upturned bottoms.

Description of how condensation drying works:

Unlike most dishwashers Bosch dishwashers don’t have a heating element. There are a number of advantages to this system:

Greatly reduced energy use
No heating element to melt plastics
No steam is vented to the outside of the unit
Eliminating the vent eliminates a weak spot in the soundproofing, which is one of many reasons a Bosch is so quiet.

The Bosch depends on condensation drying. The interior is stainless steel. Besides being good-looking and hard-wearing, the stainless interior dissipates heat. When warm, moist air encounters the cooler stainless interior the moisture cools, condenses on the stainless steel interior, and runs down into the bottom of the dishwasher.

...I also will hadd that you need to use Jet Dry, and make sure the resevoir is filled. This helps a great deal getting the plastics to dry.

I love our Bosch from Sears.

It's very quiet, loads easily because there is no center water sprayer to have to load around, and I have never needed to clean a filter.

Dishes come out dry, except for recessed areas on the bottom of mugs.

I haven't told DH this but I can confess it to my fellow Budget Boarders - I have fantasies about my dishwasher dying.... I'm too budget minded to just go out and get another one but once this one dies (it came with the house no doubt its the dreaded builder model) I"m going to do the happy dance!

Thanks for all the great information - I'm going to remember it for when "my" day comes!

The salesman tolds us that, but as I said, I never followed his advice. I do have to dry most of my dishes though, even after they've been sitting for 10 hours. They aren't soaked but I definitely can't put them away as they are. I don't usually have plastic items, so I have little experience on those.

after going to Lowe's, Sears, hhGregg, we ended back at Grants...SW suburbs of Chi town....bought a GE Profile 2012 stainless steel for $802...before tax...Our repair man & fellow my husband grew up with recommended this brand or a Maytag...
I had a Kitchen Aide but that model was one that always had problems(10 yrs)..I was surprised at the quality of some of the less expensive models seem.
