My husband and I are making our first trip to DW in June with our 7 yr old & 18 month old sons. We're staying at a Disney resort - All Stars Movie resort for 7 days. We will need minor groceries for our room, but will have no car. Does anyone have any tips or knowledge of the area - are there buses that could be ridden offsite for a milk & snack run? (A little wine for mom & dad won't hurt either!) Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Why travel outside the parks/resort to spend time shopping at a grocery store? Your best bet is to have Garden Grocer deliver. Here's their website: www.gardengrocer.com You can also have food/milk items delivered from www.Amazon.com Make sure the package is addressed to you c/o Walt Disney World All Stars Movie Resort. Enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

You can also buy these items in the food court at your resort. Are you planning on renting a fridge there?

I am a newbie to WDW. I am using wegoshop to have a few groceries and some drinks for MOM and Dad too delivered. The only catch with the alcohol is we have to be there to pick up the delivery (With ID), it can not be dropped off at luggage services.
So far we have made the order and confirmed delivery time.
Hope it goes okay.

Welcome to the DIS!!!

I agree w/pp....don't waste valuable vacation time grocery shopping. We have had good service with:

You can also pack non perishable snacks in your suitcase, or even ship a box of snacks to yourselfe, care of your resort.

You can easily purchase single serving size cartons of milk or a quart/half gallon (in gift shop) at your resort.

Consider renting a fridge or getting in on a fridge swap. The rented fridges at the resort are very small, so keep that in mind if you are ordering groceries. If you just need to keep a little bit of milk cold, you could also bring a collapsible cooler and stock w/ice daily.

Yeah, just go over to the food court, it's almost like a convenience store, lots of milk, oj, snackie snacks in refrigerated cases, including beer and wine.

Don't go offsite if you don't have a car.

Also, we bring a soft sided cooler, empty and folded up. When you get to your resort, fill it up with ice, leave it in the bathtub, and keep the stuff you want to keep cold in it. You usually have to dump out the ice about 1x per day to keep stuff cold. Just dump in in the tub and it will melt down the drain.

Thank you for all your helpful hints. We are getting a refrigerator in our room, but I will take a soft sided cooler just in case. I'm hoping my 18 month old will be mostly off of jar food by then, but may need to buy some when we get there. The deliver to our room idea is great! I don't really want to spend time going to a grocery store while everyone else is having fun!

Thanks again for all your suggestions!

We used the DDP when we were there in Dec. and we each got a refillable mug. Whenever we ate at at the food court, we used our beverage option for milk for our 14 month old son.

I wasn't going to spend $10 a day on a fridge rental so we used the recycle bin! We lined it w/ a clean plastic bag and filled it each morning and evening with ice. It took a few minutes, but it kept the milk and other stuff SO cold! We definitely used the $70 saved from the fridge rental elsewhere!

But what did you put your recyclables in?

Yeah, I've always thought the fridge rental was a rip off, too. And the cooler works just as well.

Of course, we eventually went the non-budget route and just bought DVC and now we always have a fridge in our room .

Do you know about how much milk costs from the resort gift shop? We're staying at POR. First time with no wheels!! :scared1:

We ordered from WeGoShop and included "special mommy and daddy" drinks with our order. Marge was great in working with us and our arrival time. Give her a call and I'm sure you can work something out.

With wegoshop (and I'm guessing garden grocer) you can ask them to bring a disposable styrofoam cooler with your order ($4-5 at walmart??). we do it everytime.

When we travel I've started packing those single containers of milk that don't need refrigeration. Works great for us!! Just add a little ice to the cup to make it instantly cold. Make sure you child will drink it though, since it may taste a little different that what they are used to; my picky youngest ds likes the vanilla flavor milk better than the real thing.

We had the same ages last year. I ordered half gallon milk jugs from Garden Grocer to be waiting for us when we checked in. We had a fridge in our room, so it wasnt a big deal. We had also ordered some other items that wouldnt fit in the fridge. All we had to do was add a disposable cooler along with our garden grocer order. The items in it actualy stayed colder than in the fridge. It worked out great. You just refill the ice each day before you go out to the parks. I love the fact it only cost 10 bucks to deliver the groceries. It saved time and money. (There was no need to get a cab to get groceries) I actualy wrote them a thank you letter when we got home for having such a helpful buisness..lol :goodvibes

The last time I checked a 1/2 gallon of milk at the resort was $1.99.

I have used gardengrocer several times with good luck.

I have also used www.minimus.biz to order individual bowls of cereal, other snacks and toiletries. They have free shipping with a $20 order. They are on the west coast so I order 2 weeks before my trip and the box usually arrives just 1 or 2 days before I do.

I have a friend who just went to ALL Star in November and their daughter was taking medication that needed to be in the fridge. Disney gave them the fridge for free. Apparently if there is a medical reason they give you one. They didn't ask to see the meds either.

The medical fridges can be very tiny - really only big enough for a couple of bottles of medication.

What a good idea, I didn't even think of that!

I have a "no dairy, no diapers" rule for my car (it's a minivan that's 6 years old and I want to get 10 years out of it), so we never bring cold milk with us when we drive down and we sometimes have to stop at the Publix at weird hours.

This way I can pack the little cereals, the instant oatmeal, the mini coffee pot (we use it for hot water for tea and oatmeal) and the tea bags and the sugar AND the milk!

If everyone starts asking for a fridge "for medical reasons" they won't be free anymore.

Don't blow it for the people who need it because you're trying to be frugal. :rolleyes1
