Hi everyone!

We are going up next Friday and will be staying in a 2 bedroom, there will be a total of 9 of us, 4 being kids with age's ranging from 3-14. I'm trying to come up with meals that we can make in the room for dinners. For those that cook in your rooms what are you go to meals that everyone seems to absolutely love, but also doesn't take up a ton of time??

If you are driving bring a slow cooker, tons of options and you can just get it going at the beginning of the day and it will be ready later.

spaghetti
cooked up some boneless chicken in the frying pan then made chicken tarragon one night and mixed it with boxed pasta mix the next

Hamburgers & hotdogs with baked beans, sautéed chicken and roasted vegetables, pasta and meatballs, breakfast for dinner, charcuterie boards if we have a big lunch at an all you can eat like Liberty tree. If you are driving there I would recommend food prepping ahead of time in ziplock bags and bringing it a cooler. I do this with my chicken and roasted vegetables where they are all cut up and are marinating in olive oil and spices, they can last for a few days like this and taste better they longer they are in the spices or even freeze them and thaw as needed for a longer trip.

I second the crockpot idea. You can poach chicken breasts overnight and use it for stir fry or frajitas. We usually do a low country shrimp boil, but don’t usually have little ones with us. Grabbing some rotisserie chickens at Winn Dixie or Publix along with some Stauffers macaroni and cheese and steam fresh veggies. Lots of people rave about stauffers frozen lasagne too. Pair it with a salad. Don’t know if everyone is fussy about their pasta sauce, but buying good quality frozen meatballs and jarred sauce and making a pasta night is easy.
I strongly suggest planning out a menu ahead of time to help with shopping. There are so many things available in the grocery stores now to make meal prep easy. With 9 people you definitely want to utilize your kitchen. Prices at Disney restaurants have gotten high. We also do eggs in the morning and make sandwiches to bring. Bringing a backpack thru security is much easier now with the walk thru scanners.

Oh and if our resort has a grill, we will do steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs. At BLT and Boardwalk you will need charcoal. Polynesian and Grand Floridian have gas grills. OKW I’m pretty sure is charcoal. AKL has grills but I don’t know what kind. None at Rivieria. Don’t know about SSR or BCV.

Also to come back to the taco subject: the old Girl Scout and Midwest theme park favorite: Tacos in a bag aka the walking taco.
You get individual bags of Doritos or Fritos. Make the meat and have all the fixings and sauces. Have everyone open the bags, pile it up and then close it and hold it tight and shake it up. Then proceed to walk around eating it with a fork

I'm not sure which part is more disturbing... the idea of traveling with a Crock Pot, or cooking tacos in one.
Also-as a former Girl Scout (loved being one-was one all through my school years and duri BG college they stopped legacy scouts aka aged out but still love it program but god so many good memories) when we traveled we had EVERYTHING. I’m no talking about camping or cabins, or day trips but like to Salem, Mass for Halloween we had everything to make sandwiches for lunch and breakfast foods all
Around. We even had blow up mattresses and sleeping bags for the hotel so we wouldn’t have to pay for a cot!

“Be Prepared”. Loved earning my badges.
Another idea.....frozen pizza is not my favorite, but you can get them on sale ..... the oven should be able to fit four at a time...can’t remember if there is a pizza cutter in the kitchen though. I can’t believe what they charge for a pizza at the pizza window at Boardwalk. Ice cold beers, pizza on your deck. Not only do you save money, you save time. You can spend two hours in a restaurant.

I'll just add... my favorite thing to cook when I have a villa or cabin is breakfast. We all know that Disney food is expensive, but I feel like breakfast tends to be the worst value and the worst quality, plus it slows you down getting to the fun stuff in the morning. More often than not, my grocery order consists of a ton of eggs, bananas, butter, bagels, and cream cheese.

I agree on spaghetti. I cooked that once for my family and my wife looked on saying "We are on Vacation!! We should be eating out every night!" So the next night I ordered in a cheese pizza. The silence was noticeable.

We now bring down an instant pot,,more versatile then just a crockpot and its a crockpot too. But if we have a down day and usually have a couple,,,use the outdoor bbqs and cook up some yummy ribs over charcoal and roast some potatoes in there as well. Grab veggies and steam them in foil near the end. |Oh and most important make sure you have enough cold beer on hand for the couple of hours of relaxing and cooking.

I always end up buying way too much food, and leaving a lot behind.. by the time you buy everything, you might as well just buy quick service.
I would, as others have suggested, have breakfast in the room.I always buy a lot breakfast food. I wouldn’t pack a crockpot. I keep
Cheese and crackers, yogurt, bananas, bread, butter, eggs.
maybe you could get a few frozen entrees and salad kits?

Do you know if DVC management or housekeeping have any issues with leaving something cooking in a crockpot during the day, unattended?

We cook a lot of meals on vacation. I do take short cuts that I wouldn’t take at home. Like buying precut veggies and fruits. I will often run to sams or Costco and grab a fruit and veggie tray to set out for snacks. For meals I do sloppy joes, spaghetti, baked salmon with baked potatoes, chili, tacos etc. We also will grab a rotisserie chicken for at least one meal.
