My children have been asking to bake some "Italian cookies" like the bakery shop has (it is about a 30 minute drive from the house). Last time one of my DD's and I went there it was in October and I only bought 5 cookies as they were .95 each:scared1:. We're not talking huge cookies, they were the size of a regular cookie out of a bag. I am not a baker but I do not think it cost that much for them to make one cookie.

Also if any one know how to make a petifour (not sure of the spelling) please may I have that recipe also as these were 1.50 each and were very tiny.

TIA

I can give you the recipe for anisette cookies that my kids love. They are very easy to make too. Dough: 3 cups flour, 2 sticks margarine, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 3 teaspoons baking powder, 2 tsp vanilla and a few drops of anise. Frosting: powdered sugar, milk, anise..no exact measurements but you want it to be thick enough to make a liquid frosting to pour over the cookies. Only need maybe 1 or 2 tsp anise in that. For the dough you just mix the ingredients and then drop onto cookie sheet..can make them big or small or twist into shapes. Bake in 300 degree oven until just starting to get light brown. Get them right onto a cooling rack that is covered with waxed paper. Then while still hot, drizzle the frosting over the cookies and sprinkle with any colored sprinkles you want..we use red, white and green!

Mom2boys thank you for the recipe:goodvibes. Can't wait to try.

The one they have that is are a type of rainbow looking cookie has coconut in it.

I am also looking for a chocolate anise. Some type of merengue (not sure of spelling) drop cookie. Turtle type cookie (cookie bottom with nuts and chocolate frosting dropped on top). My mom loves the cookie or cake that looks like a pyramid made out of little balls, I think it is called a pinyalat (again my spelling).

I have no idea how to make them, since every bakery and grocery store sells every variety, but I think they're gross!

"Italian cookie" is kind of vague. Can you describe them?

I have a lot of Italian cookie recipes from my family, but not sure which kind you are looking for.

I agree with you about the bakery and especially store bought ones..very dry and disgusting. The ones I make were passed down from my great grandmother and they are delicious..!

MaggieW not sure of the official names for the cookies. Some are called Italian seed cookies. How about a coconut macaroon (not sure if it is an Italian cookie, but they sell it at this bakery)? I am willing to try anything new, so really any recipes are truely welcome. I love the old ones that have been handed down from generations. Never know when I am going to find one my family will fall in love with.

We also make guccidata (not sure of spelling) they are pretty labor intensive though..basically they are a fig stuffed crescent shaped cookie with icing.

I'm sure they are - my gf makes the best pignoli cookies! For some reason, even the Italian bakeries here (that's all we have) that have awesome cakes, can't seem to make Italian cookies that taste good - although they're pretty!
