My dd got an Ipod yesterday, and of course being impatient to use it, plugged it right into the computer to start charging without installing the software first. Now the Ipod says "do not disconnect". We have not installed the software still. I have searched the apple website and havent been able to find out whether we can just disconnect it, install the software and will be okay or not. What I'm finding when I search sounds like people who have connected the ipod, installed the software and then figured out what they did wrong.

Does anyone know if its ok to go ahead and unplug the Ipod from the computer? Hoping to find out before she wakes up this morning and starts hounding me. :teeth:

I only have a shuffle, but yes I think it would be fine to disconnect the iPod. Install the software and try again. If for some reason it doesn't work correctly, just reformat the iPod and your good to go. Have Fun! :sunny:

if there are no songs on the ipod...then you are probably ok to disconnect...

remember..when all else fails....read the directions!! :P

HA! She takes after my dh. Forget the instructions-just jump in and see what happens.

I figured it would be ok to go ahead and disconnect it, but I want to be assured that its ok (my need for directions)

There should be an icon down in the lower right corner of your screen. Right click on it and select "unplug/eject removable device", or something like that. Another screen will pop up, select the ipod and hit stop device. It will then tell you it is ok to disconnect. I have also just disconnected mine without stopping it with no harm done. The icon will have like "little arrows" on it or something. I don't have anything USB connected to this computer so I don't remember.

kaydoggy - Thanks for that info. I didn't even notice the little icon down there. Clicked it and it told us it was ok to disconnect.

once you install the software, it will allow you to disconnect the ipod...they are so great..I love mine!
