Need invitation wording ideas.....

So I decided that I'll pay for 1 child and 1 adult, although if the parents are schleping from a distance, I'll have no choice but to pay for the additional parent.

I am doing Toy Story 3 - (9:30a - 12:30p) -- Movie starts @ 10a... so having breakfast - cereal, minibagels, oj and milk. then its movie time which inlcudes popcorn & drink for each child/parent, then 40 or so minutes for cupcakes/cake and drinks... and GET OUT!!! LOL!

What movie are you taking the kids too?? Would love to hear your ideas!

Hi..

I'm doing "how to train your dragon".
Movie theater told me to arrive at 10am - have breakfast theme - then doing movie... I was thinking of doing mini-bagels (butter and cream cheese too), munchins, cupcakes (to sing too), juice, milk and coffee for adults.
Movie to follow with unlimited popcorn and juice/soda for the kids. Adults have to provide their own admission.

On our invites (and most we receive) it just says "This is a drop-off party. Enjoy a break while your child has fun with us!"

Around here, for age 7, the norm is drop-offs. Parents are glad for the break.

Most parents I know just want to know what the host expects and will go with it.

If there is a special situation (ie. a child who would have trouble staying alone) then the parent will usually let me know and/or I might talk with the parent myself if I know about the situation in advance. In these cases, I would probably just pay for the extra parents myself since there would be a limited number.

Church would probably be an issue on Sunday mornings here. I think the Catholic church is the only one who has non-Sunday morning services.

Now for my dd5's birthday, we put "Drop-off or stay for the fun!" and I figured since these were mostly preschool families that most would stay. We had two parents stay out of 18 kids---and one of those two was a good friend of mine, so I think she stayed just to be social with the other mom who stayed (who I knew would stay as her dd is pretty little) so it wouldn't be awkward for her.

Most parents came back in time for cake though...and we passed out pieces to everyone!

Do you normally have a lot of parents stay? In my kids classes, parents typically start dropping off around 4yo, though some are even 3yo. I won't leave my son at a party yet as I don't feel anyone should be responsible for him as he is very active, but my daughter was left at parties by the time she was 4yo. One of them was a movie party actually and the invitation said "This is a dropoff party". The birthday girl was turning 6yo, but most kids invited were 4-5yo. A few parents did stay, but I am not sure how the host handled those tickets.

Thank you to the OP for posting this. I wanted to have my DD bday at an amusement park last year but couldn't think of the wording since I would have to pay per person. Had the same problem this year when thinking of a pool party at a hotel. Have to pay per person that enters the pool room, even if they are not swimming. I just ended up having it at my house and all the moms stayed as expected (DD7) - I think they look at it like a social outing themselves. Thanks to all the ideas too.

Normally, i don't have a party like this - either at a gymnasium, Chuck E Cheese, etc, parents will stay and i will order more food.

This time because it's a movie - i'd have to pay an extra $7.00 per adult for the movie in the package I want.

I normally drop mine off too - unless alot of Mom's are staying - I'll hide in the back or find somewhere to sit ..

Your welcome!

I'm just going to use some of the wording ideas above - change it to state the parents can stay for breakfast and the movie will be discounted.

If they don't like it, I guess they will say NO to the RSVP.

Yeah, I guess if it's normal for parents to stay then I would be adding something on the invite too. I wouldn't want to pay for a bunch of parents to see the movie either!

"Drop off party" was listed on the movie invite my daughter got, but I think that's cause they were younger. If I got one for her now (she's 6yo), I wouldn't even think of staying. But if most parents did in our area, I would definitely mention it.

Just wanted to let everyone know that i put a little note in each invitation today.

I said..

Breakfast and a Movie

Drop off Party - If you'd like to stay with your child during the movie, the theater is providing discounted tickets of $7.00.

When I get RSVP's from people/parents, I will explain more in detail.

I just felt it best to inform them of a cost if they stayed.
