We have the chance to come to FL in July while DH is on business. 2 of my kids would come - DD14, DS17. They love the Universal parks, but I'm not up for paying for hotel(to get FOTL), when one is paid for. We haven't been to any WDW parks since 1998. Which parks would you recommend? Why? Personally I love all things Disney, but not my family.

Also, DS will be turning 17 while we are there. What is the MUST DO thing in Orlando/theme parks for a birthday?

TIA

MGM has two of my fav rides, Tower of Terror and Rockin' Rollercoaster, but The MAgic Kingdom is always a classic, even though the rides are geared towards younger kids.

You should definitely see some the parades and shows in the parks, like Fantasmic. Hope this helps! :)

i agree with claire on this one. mgm definatly has 2 of the biggest thrill rides in disney. while epcot has mission space, test track and soarin. magic kingdom has the classic stuff. if ur son likes video games and all that stuff i would definatly reccommend going to disney quest. althouigh i don't think its a place for a mom(most moms aren't into that stuff) if ur comefortable with him going on his own then i would let him go there by himself during the day so u can shop with ur daughter at downtown disney. the main thing u should try to do is hit all the thrill rides as both ur children will love them.

::yes:: Claire said everything I would have said :goodvibes

I would say MGM and Animal Kingdom. They are releasing Everest next month. An intense Roller Coaster everoyne will love in AK. MGM has MANY thrills and great shows.

I would reccommend MGM and EPCOT. MGM has some great thrill rides and shows that I'm sure they would love. EPCOT doesn't have much to do with Disney characters, but it also has some great thrill rides and the world showcase. Magic Kingdom is my fave, it is classic Disney, but may be too Disney for your kids.

Claire is right. :teeth: MGM has alot of "thriller" rides. Epcot if they're into the tech thing. Animal and Magic Kingdom probably wouldn't interest them. Especially if the'yre not into Disney...

(OMG who woudn't love disney...)

Umm I would say Animal Kingdom (Just for Expidetion Everest) and MGM for TOT and RNR (thrill rides) and maybe Epcot for all the learning things, mission space and test track. I would suggest to get a park hopper (you can go to anyof the parks that day so like MGM in the morning, AK at night and such) Also Disney Quest is really fun if your son likes video games. Have fun :thumbsup2 :cool1:

AK also has the water rapids, another rollar coaster like thing and a neat safari even I enjoyed up close to elephants, giraffes ect.

I also agree with Claire. :)

MGM has the major thrill rides, but all the parks have some sort of thrill ride in them..

As for birthdays:

What we did for my dad, was we went to Whispering Canyon Cafe (in WL) and that's one of those restaurants where they like to pick on you. What they did for him was they brought him a piece of cake and had all the waiters surround the table. They sung Happy Birthday to him, but they cut the song short and they all took handfuls or forkfuls of his cake and shoved it into their mouths (they brought him another piece). Oh they also made him a hat out of napkins too. My dad got it easy, the other guy wasn't so lucky. He had to ride one of the wooden horses (the ones they use for the Pony Express for the kids) and run around the restaurant singing Happy Birthday to himself. But because he didn't do it loud enough, they had him run around the lobby singing Happy Birthday to himself even louder with all the little kids following him. It was funny.

So if you're son's a good sport, I reccommend that, it's good for a laugh. What they do varies depending upon the family, like we're not one of those loud, outgoing family's like the other guy was in..

Just a suggestion.. :teeth:

Been there, Done that !! :rotfl2:

DD mainly wants to do the camp at SW - which will be either before or after the actual trip.

DS16/17 is only going because if he stays home he can't ride his sport bike (zx6 Ninja) and will be w/o wheels. He doesn't care what we do, but would like to NOT spend time w/ relatives and wants to find a DDR machine.

They're SO not helpful, but y'all are GREAT!!

WDW has great thrills for teens :). On the WDW site you can click "fun for all" then "teens" and it will show you recreation, attractions, shows, dining, and shopping. I also recommend the indoor activity center in DTD. You can create your own rollar coster, and test it. It's a great area for all ages and if you have the "water parks and more" package added on you get in free.
I went last July and am going this July and of course hurricanes do happen around that time. I'm not sure if other parks not Disney have this same plan, but when it starts to rain and some parks/rides close there are plenty of indoor activities in the hotels and all around. The boardwalk has an arcade, DTD has shopping, cirque du soliel, Disneyquestthe indoor acitvity center, plenty of indoor learning centers in Epcot (my favorite was "Inside the land" they have the new attraction "Soarin"), and if you are a daring person the new "Mission space" in future world (I would NOT recommend this for anyone who has small children, any heart problems, high blood pressure, motion sickness, expecting mothers, or are scared of heights).

I would say MGM and magic kingdom c'mon ya never get tired of your first disney rides!~! i still luv 2 ride them

MGM is my favorite theme park because of R&R and TOT. They are my favorite rides. Epcot also has a lot of good rides, like MS, Soarin and TT. The WS isn't a ride, but it's really interesting, check it out, your kids will love it.
