Does anyone have experience using Avis Preferred at MCO as a new Preferred member? I understand they will need to see my license, but does that mean I have to wait in the long lines for the counter inside, or can I go straight to the garage? If so, are the waits in the garage long for this sort of thing?

Thinking of switching my Alamo reservation but I am really hesitant to give up the quick getaway. We have always had long waits at MCO.

You skip the counter. Show your license at the checkout gate. I used to use it for business travel but my company switched to National. When I used to use it they had a board with your name and the car's space # but now it looks like they have an app. I almost always got upgraded from intermediate to full size.

Thank you--do you know what the experience is like for a new member? I have heard that the first time I will still have to go by the counter, and that is what I am concerned about.

Being a new member doesn't affect this. A preferred member is a preferred member. The only time you have to go to the counter is if there is a problem with the reservation. I had to once because I had forgotten to update my CC when I got a new one. Every other time it's been absolutely smooth.

The good thing is there is small kiosk as you enter the garage and a board that shows you your car. It may say you have to go to the kiosk. Never more than about 2 others there and they deal with the problem fast and actually it's rare to see anyone when I walk past it. I haven't been to the main counter in the terminal since I got a preferred status and that's so long ago I can't remember when that was.
