I'm thinking of going. I have 1 teen, 1 8 year old and a 20 month old. Will this event be to scary for the younger kids?

Deneen

Hello Deneen.

I see you are from Jersey as am I. I will also be attending HHN this year my forth time since it began. Your teen will absolutely love it. As for your eight year old some people will probably disagree with me but I think it would be ok if the 8 year old was into the scarier side of Halloween. The 20 month old on the other hand will probably not enjoy it at all. Lots of fog and CM going around scaring everyone.
If you've ever been to Great Adventures Fright Fest think of this as 10 times bigger, 100 times more frightening.

If it were me, I would not bring an 8yo. Definitely no place for a real little one. Your teen will love it. It's an event geared alot toward adults. There is alchohol in abundance (not necessarily a bad thing) ;) and the streets can be very very dark. To me it's diffucult to know just where you are even if you've been there a zillion times. It's completely different at night and I could not imagine the thought of being separated.

I'm sure whatever you do you'll have fun!!! ::yes::

I'm kind of struggling with the age dilema. Last year I went with DS15 and did not take DD10. I was glad that I didn't take her because Bill and Ted are pretty sexually explicit. This year she has been after me to take her on her birthday in Oct. I'm considering going but getting the VIP Tour with a female guide that my daughter might feel more comfortable with than just me and her brother.
I took my son when he was 4 but we just did rides (no houses)and watched the car crusher they had that year. I wouldn't take the 8 y.o.

Thanks for the help. My 8 year old loves scary movies and haunted hay rides. I think he would be scared, but he loves to be scared. We have never been to Great adventure at Halloween time. However, we are thinking of going this year.
As far as the 20 month old, it sounds like he wouldn't enjoy this event. I may have to get a sitter.

In my own opinion I would not take young childern at all. I went last year and I don't even remember seeing any children there during the night that I went! I only saw adults. It is made for adults not kids. The walkways are dark and scary with lots of fog. People jumping out at you. Last year scarachter (have no idea how to spell that) jumped out from the bushes and scared this girl and she went running and falling into someone else. So having a young child around wouldn't be the best thing in my opinion. It is just an adult atmosphere. How about MNSSHP that is GREAT for kids and adults! :)

I didn't go to HHN 'till I was 12, and even then I almost had to be dragged through the houses. I've been obsessed ever since then though.

I strongly recommend you don't take any of your children. Unless your teen is 16 or older i would not take them. My kids are 12, 4,4,4 and there is no way i'd even consider taking my 12 until she is 16 atleast! She loves scary and is begging but no way my foot is down on this one. I dont' think all the drinking and crowds of scared adults and all the things people say when they are scared is something i want to expose my kids to and i sure did'nt see any "kids" like 8, 10 there and no toddlers or babys at all. Please reconsider mnsshp with your young children. We are going to HHN just my husband and i and the next weekend we are doing 4 nights with our girls at mnsshp for them.

I don't agree with that. I think any teen should be allowed to go if they want to and are aware of what to expect. The drunks at HHN are no different than the drunks anywhere else.

I saw lots of kids every night that I went last year. I even saw some as young as 4 or 5. It isn't really recommended for kids though but really it is your decision. If your 8 year old is old enough to know the difference between real and pretend and loves scary movies, he should be fine.

I'm a horror freak myself and I always loved horror movies and shows as a kid. I watched all the horror shows on tv like Thriller, Night Gallery, etc. and went to all the horror flicks at the movies I even made a haunted house when I was 8 or 9 years old for all my friends complete with spaghetti for brains and peeled grapes for eyeballs. I managed to grow up to be quite normal. I still love Stephen King books and they are a favorite of my teen sons also.

I would say that most 8 year olds would not be able to handle HHN but if your son is anything like I was as a child or like my own kids, he will probably love it. Maybe you could go one night without the kids and check it out first. If that isn't possible, then you could take him and if it seems to be too much, then ride the rides and go home.

edited to add: Be prepared to see plenty of fake blood and gore though. And just for the record my sons didn't go to HHN until they were 15 and 16.

We are doing Disney's MNSSHP on Halloween. We have free time so and my 8 year old is begging to go to Universal's Halloween party. From what I have read, I think I would be scared. Also, no way am I bringing the 20 month old. If people in costume pop out at you, looking like the living dead and the Mummy's I can't image what the 20 month old would do. He might pass out from fear.
I think my 8 year old would love it, but he may be scared and not want to go in the haunted houses.
Question, can the kids wear customers? My 8 year old wants to be Freddy Kruger.

How about for a 33 year old? I am scared. LOL

HHN isn't like Disney's Halloween event. HHN is all about the haunted houses. It's not really worth going if you don't go into the houses. The only other things there are the Bill & Ted show and the parade, and the Bill & Ted show is PG-13. There will also be scarezones that you must go through to get into the event and over to the Studios, so if he's afraid of a haunted house atmosphere he won't even be able to get into the park.

If you want an idea of how he'll handle it, let him watch this and see how he reacts - make sure the speakers are on.

He will go through Haunted houses, but he will make me go in first! I'm scared!

if you dont want to be scared when you go into the houses then watch the HHN special of the travel channel! they give away all of the secrets:mad: ( really wish i had known that before i watched!) so if you know what to look for then you wont be surprised.;)

That doesn't give away anything. The haunted houses are completely different every year. They don't keep using the same ones like Knott's.

Definitely for the older one but NOT for the other two. We are going with my 14 year old and he is already freaking out about it!!!

betty

My 11 Y.O. daughter bailed last night. I guess it will be me and 16 Y.O. again this year.
:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: - :scared1: =:scared1: :scared1:

I have never done the HHN, and at 46 years of age, I doubt I would go. Is there anyway to go, and just ride the rides and not SEE ANY Scary characters? Also, What rides are open?
