I am looking for something for my kids to do for grandparent gifts for Christmas. Any ideas? Something easy and inexpensive would be great. We have already colored basic round ornaments, and also made painted baby food jars for candles for previous years. Looking for something new.

how about a ornament that you can put their picture in~ my in-laws love it~ I do it every year.

We had craft day at church on Saturday and it was great. The kids each got to make 10 gifts and then even had them gift wrapped. Some of the things DD made were: sand art brownies (layered ingredients in a wide mouth quart jar), puzzle piece picture frames (make a cardboard border then layer green painted puzzle pieces, add red dots and it looks like holly, tea or cocoa mix in mugs, pen/pencil holders, bath salts (take epson salt and color half red with food coloring, then add peppermint fragrance to the white, layer and it looks like a candy cane - they used baby food jars for this and tied nice ribbons around the top. Hope these ideas help.

Last year DS made bars of soap. He first made small shapes in a mold then took those and put them in a transparent but colored soap bar he had scented. We just melted the squares of soap in a Pyrex measuring cup in the micro.....added color and fragrance and poured it into the mold. Candy molds make inexpensive molds too. DS likes to fish with my dad so we found a candy mold that had several small fish....those he made green then placed them in a blue bar. For kids you can even sink in lil plastic animals as a surprise when they use up the soap.

One of my favorite handmade Christmas gifts from DS is this:

It is made on burlap with yarn as a hanger. DS made this when he was four or five. You could add ribbons or almost anything to dress it up more and instead of burlap you could use almost anything you wanted. A definite keepsake.

Your child's handprints can also be arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree. Really cute!

I've also seen a footprint angel body with handprint wings and a footprint reindeer with handprint antlers.

You might want to check out the ideas at www.recipegoldmine.com . They have all kinds of things like jar mixes, soaps, etc.
