Need In-Park Helper for June Trip

My wife has ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and is confined to a wheelchair. They just told us that she will need to go on a Ventillator next month, so we're trying to get one last trip to DisneyWorld in before she's taken down another peg.

Only problem is that we have a 7 year old with mild ADHD. (Do I even need to say that for a 7 year-old boy?) We want to make this a family vacation, but I don't know if I can handle watching both of them. If my son runs off, I have to leave my wife in the wheelchair. When I have to take my wife into the bathroom, my son is very reluctant to stay in there with us.

Is there any group that might provide a helper just to walk around the parks with us? I can do all the special help for my wife no problem, but someone to be my backup when someone needs my attention would be a lifesaver. Does anyone know if this is possible? We're looking at possibly the weekend of June 20-21st

I wish it was on the west coast as I would help you at DLR but I do not know of any services available that would fit your needs.

I don't know of any orlando organizations, but I do believe that the sitting services Disney recommends, at least kids night out, and probably Fairy Godmothers too, can provide a helper in the parks for the kids as well as in the room. So you could hire them for the hours you needed them to assist w/ your DS and give him some "special" attention, too... like go on the rides that you couldn't with the challenges your DW has right now. You could also maybe look at bringing a local friend or college student w/ you who you know and trust... downside being increased plane fare, what to do about accomodations, etc. Keep looking, but at least these are a couple of options to start with.

Do you have a private duty nurse? I'd see if your insurance will pay for that. That's especially important if your wife will need a vent. If you can't do that do you have a friend or family member who could go with you?
