Can anyone give any ideas for surprising two 12-yr old boys (DS and his best friend)? Doesn't have to be much or very time consuming.... just something for them that they might enjoy that might make their day a little more "magical". His friend has never been to WDW before, so I'm not only trying to make him feel welcome to vacation with our family, but to make it something he won't soon forget.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!!!!!! :)

How about getting them each a gift basket :cool1: Feralpeg one of the posters here has a website and makes and delivers them for you. You can select anything you want to go in them from her v large list of stuff. There are loads of different candy ...chocs...mickey ears..you name it. :goodvibes

I think they look great and Iam defo getting two for my trip in August. One for dd6 and ds13.

I know it can be hard to think up treats for boys of that age. Unlike my DD who being only 6 it is quite easy.
But I thought this was a great idea for my ds13.

As a single dad of two boys (now almost 15 and 12), we've made WDW our Vacation of Choice -- meaning, that's where we go, and we go any year we can afford it. The boys both like to take friends, so I can relate to your question. One thing I have done, which really seemed to be a big hit, was to give some Disney Dollars to each of the kids -- you can get them all over down there, and that gave them a little extra money to spend on whatever they wanted, wherever they wanted, whenever they wanted. My kids and their friends seemed to really crave that "power to choose" -- and while sometimes they used it on stuff that made sense to me, and other times not, I kept my mouth shut and let them have fun with it. Just a suggestion.

My DS is 13 and a copule of things that I have done for him on past trips include:
1. Using one the the empty mini M&M holders I put in the quarters and pennies alternating as needed for the pressed penny machines...
2. Give them each a disposable camera...its fun to see what they think is important enough to take photos of...usually differrent than what you do
3. Something we are trying this year that we haven't before (and I really don't know alot about it) is the Virtual Magic Kingdom - it's kind of like a Magic Kingdom video game - I believe it is on Main St. I have planned for DS to spend some time there while we are shopping.
4. My DS LOVES Disney Quest - it might be fun to get the extra on their tickets so they can go there...they can design their own rollar coaster then ride it (virtualy of course)...

hope that helps!

The boys would probably love Disney Quest. Or even one of the water parks. Since they're at an age where they'll enjoy the thrill rides; perhaps purchase a photo or two that they snap during the ride that your son's friend can take home with him. And they will probably get a kick out of Indiana Jones & Lights! Motors! Action! @ MGM.

Thanks for all the comments! Our plans already include TL and DQ, but we (myself, DH, mom and the boys) are all going. I was thinking something that was just for them, above and beyond what we were all already doing. I've made them earn Disney Dollars, (yes, earn... wanted them to think about how hard THEY worked for that spending money before they blow it!) so I'm really liking the ideas of photos, disposable cameras, gift baskets, etc.

Can someone point me to Feralpeg's website?

Can anyone tell me more about this Virtual Magic Kingdom?

You guys are the best!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 Thanks for the responses!

This is not so much a surprise but certainly something you can do with them while you are there. Take them to the ESPN zone over at the Boardwalk outside of Epcot. There is plenty to keep them entertained both there and along the Boardwalk.

The virtual Magic Kingdom is at www.vmk.com. This site will tell you all about it. It is my understanding that it is mainly plaid online, but that you can tie in stuff that you actually do at the park. I bought a hat at the real MK, and got a free coupon for gold Mouse Ears for my VMK character.

We have done the Disney Dollars, which at the time we got at our local DisneyStore. We also got our daughter 2 disposable cameras and ordered her a t-shirt with her favorite Disney character to wear, plus we purchased a Passporter that we used to record her days. They have a section at the back of the book to write each days activities (likes/dislikes) and hold small items. Since we're planning our next trip now, she pulls the Passporter out to see what she did while we were down there.

It's great to see WDW through someone else's eyes, especially on their first trip. ENJOY :sunny:

There is a place on International Blvd. called "WonderWorks" It's actually an upside down building! You might consider taking them there for an afternoon.
sort of a fun-filled science museum. Or, how about a day at Cape Canaveral? I know these two aren't Disney, but you were looking for something "special" to do.

If you want to stay strictly on Disney property, you could get tickets to an event at the Wide World of Sports. (The Atlanta Braves are in spring training)Or, parasailing at the back of the Contemporary. Or, how about a special tour, like Wild by Design at Animal Kingdom?

You have some great ideas here. About VMK, my kids LOVE it. It is on-line, but they do now have a place to play at MK. The cool thing is now they can earn points for real prizes at MK. It isn't just for virtual stuff anymore. So far, ds and dd-12 both have "won" jelly braclets that they will get when we go. They will be printing off the coupon saying they won it. Warning about VMK, my kids do love it and can spend all day there, if I would let them. They do have a great time and they really have to watch what they say. certain word aren't allowed and you aren't allowed to tell about yourself, like your name or where you live. If you somehow do, you are kicked off for a couple of hours. yes, ds had to take a "time out" before and didn't really like it, so, he is really careful about what he says. Also, it is a good Disney fix when needed. ;)
