We are DVC members and we treated my parents with a stay at the Boardwalk last fall. They enjoyed it so much that they want to go back to the Boardwalk or another resort on property this December for their 50th anniversary. They want to treat for the major part of the trip for 10 people total including themselves.

They know nothing about DVC so we said we would check out options. We don't know where to start with organizing this. We have our points that could be used, but would need many more for the reservation. Would we be better off going through central reservations or some kind of "gatherings" program.

Should we purchase points or a reservation for the accommodations? Any ideas from someone who may have organized something like this would be greatly appreciated.

How about a "Happily Ever After" celebration!

You can contact Disney for Grand Gathering events. If you want to stay in DVC accommodations, you either want to rent or transfer points. Do you all want to be together, like in a Grand Villa or separate rooms?

Hello Mic
Here are a couple of my suggestions

Check out the rent trade board to rent your additional Points. Do your homework and read all the Stickys.

Rent 2 scooters (not from Disney) and have them delivered to your resort. We did this last year for my parents aged 78 and 80, they loved them. There are plenty of rental companies on the net.

We did something like this and stayed in a grand villa at BWV with three generations of family. It was great. You could also get a number of 2-bedroom units at one resort for probably fewer points.

For additional points I would calculate how many you need and then look on the rent/trade board for a member to transfer the entire amount at once (you can only take one transfer in or out per use year). That way once the transfer is done you are in control of the points and reservation(s), vs. having a member make a reservation with their points and then you have no control.

Get a grand gathering number at that point and you can use group dining for reservations of large parties. Enjoy your planning :)

Thank you all for your suggestions. There are some good ideas to work with. We have transfered points before and that looks like a good way to go. We would probably get 2 two bedrooms as there are four families and grand villas only have private accommodations for three families, right? The scooter idea is also a must for my mom. Dad is in really good condition and walked everywhere with us last fall. I'll check on the grand gathering and happily ever after ideas as well. Thanks for getting me started!

I would reccomend a GV plus a studio. It is REALLY fun to have a nice big gathering spot for everyone, and no matter which DVC resort you are at, the GVs are all very nice. If I could swing it, I'd probably opt for the ones in Jambo house!

I'd also reccomend a nice family night out at either Artist Point or Jiko. Of those two, I think Artist Point is more condusive to that type of group. We did something similar for our 40th anniversary. I also would have them do the "rehitching" thing or whatever it is called at Garden Grill if they still do that. We did that on our 35th, and it was a hoot! We had to kiss to a count of 100! It was pretty funny to do, since we were laughing so hard!
