NEED IDEAS! ~ HALLOWEEN COSTUME for MICKEY's Not So Scary Halloween Party

We are a family of 4 looking for ANY ideas for a Halloween costume for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at WDW.

BEFORE YOU COMMENT:

If you have never been there are a few major things to consider:

1) It's HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forget ANYTHING thats black in color or long sleeves!

2) There are RULES to what you can wear! I will update this thread with the latest rules later on (unless someone else does it first!)

So now that we have that part out of the way, here are a few ideas we have come up with, and WHY.

1) Deviled Egg. This one is simple. Wear solid white shorts and a solid white shirt, and carry in a cheap, lightweight dollar store plastic red pitchfork and a set of devil ears. You also need a round circle of yellow felt and some sticky tape or velcrove. Its lightweight, its cool temp wise, and its DIFFERENT!

OK, thats the only good one I have come up with. My DW is going as "Sexy Snow White". (In good taste of course, it IS a family park)

And my son is considering Sonic the Hedgehog. But he is undecided. My daughter is going as a simple cat, and she too is undecided.

None of our plans are definite (except for my DW who just bought the outfit).

So how about YOUR ideas? What lightweight, and cool in the FL heat costume
ideas have you done or wish you did, or saw that someone else has done?

What are some of the better ones you have saw?

Here are a couple I saw that were interesting:

A bloody mental hospital patient in a straight-jacket with a mechanical life sized rat that was gnawing on the side of his head.

And my favorite, the most comical to see, by far the most noticed and "stop, stare, laugh" was 3 guys dressed as tinkerbell. Complete with tutus and magic wands. They were getting quite a large amount of attention, and they seemed quite happy with the response.

Last year, my family of 4 went as "Beach Bums". It was perfect because the clothes were lightweight and easy to walk around in plus we were already bringing swimtrunks and swimshirts, flip flops and bucket hats for the pools! I have a DS4 and a DS1 and they looked so cute! I am a little pooh sized so I bought a pair of men's swimtrunks and a white t-shirt to wear and wore a white visor on my head. We put white makeup on our noses to resemble sunblock and wore goggles around our necks. Some people thought we were lifeguards so I guess the costume could go either way. The most important thing is that we were comfy and didn't have to pack extra clothes!

My in-laws went with and they were hippies. Also very easy--cut-off shorts and tie dyed shirts.

I love the BLT Costume for families. One person is a piece of bread, one is the bacon, one is the tomato, one is the lettuce!

But if I were you I would go as Disney characters!
When I went I was Alice accompanied by Mad Hatter and the Evil Queen.

If your wife is going as Snow White why don't you dress up as her prince and have your kids dress up as Dwarves? Seems like it would be easy to modify regular clothes to fit this one.

Or you could all go as Peter Pan characters...Tink for your wife, Pan for you, and then either Lost Boys or Wendy/Tigerlily. These costumes could also easily be made from modified clothes.

Hmmm. Dwarfs... they act more like TROLLS most of the time, but still..... Dwarfs just might work... There's an idea.
I'd have no problem being prince charming...
The deviled egg fits my character better. But my wife mentioned prince charming as well.

My DH dressed up as the tooth fairy one year. He wore a leotard, a tutu and white tights so you could see all of his black leg hairs through them (gross, I know, but that was the point.) The shoes could be simple ballet flats or those isotoner slippers that look like ballet shoes. He carried a star wand and wore sparkly wings. Then he got some of those hillbilly teeth and put those in. It was hilarious!!!

I am going as Tinkerbell, of course! I didn't like most of the rather risque costumes I found online, since Disney doesn't officially make costumes for adults, but I found a decent sized sheer Tink dress on wondercostumes.com with long sleeves and a decent length skirt - I'm wearing it over a white dress so hopefully that will fall in line with the rules! If anyone is looking for other adult Dis costumes, just google it - there are definitely ones you can buy, or at least adapt, to fit your own idea of propriety! I even found pale green Tink shoes with a white fluff puff on them =)

I think I saw this on Friends and thought it was hilarious! Guy was wearing a blue leotard with balls of cotton stuck here and there; but you could get away with a blue t-shirt and blue shorts. He was carrying a watergun (wonder if Disney would allow the gun, though). When he was asked what he was, he replied,"Partly cloudy with a chance of rain", and squirted the asker with the watergun. Loved it

Last time we were at MNSSHP we did a "50" theme.

Grandaughters wore poodle skirts and white t-shirts, saddle shoes and socks. One wore pink, the other one blue. DD and I wore capri's and pink lady tee's, DH wore t-bird tee and shorts.

It was the 3 week of October and it was very hot that night, there were people with heavy costumns, I'm sure they didn't stay in them long. Remember it can be very hot and humid during this party, so try to pick something that you'll not roast in. While we were having dinner there was a family of adults who each had a different villian t-shirt.

We are doing a "roaring 20's theme this year. Guys are wearing special t-shirts I had made up and shorts. Plus there carring toy machine guns. Us girls are wearing flapper dresses.

In 2008 we went as cast of Peter Pan. There were 5 of us. My nephew was Peter Pan. One niece was Wendy, one was Tinkerbell, my sister was the Tick Tock crocodile and I was Mr. Smee. The hardest costume was Wendy's dress. We got alot of comments from other guests and CM's.

I'm going to be Death from Sandman when we go on our honeymoon. Black skinny jeans and a black tank top with my fiance's "groom mickey" top hat with some simple black makeup on my face done with an eyeliner pencil. (Death wears a top hat in the comic and I like to think she'd add Mickey Ears to it if she was in Disney).

My fiance is probably going to be some variety of "pirate".

I was considering snow white/prince/one dwarf for me/wife/daughter. On a similar topic....are there any good costume places within the park if I did not want to buy/pack costumes? Or, could anyone recommend online retailers?

All great ideas but we just can't get away from Disney themes, we love it!

One year I was Malificent (yes, I have THE costume ) and my DD (4 at the time) was Aurora.

Next year I was Wendy, DF was Peter Pan, DD (5) was Tigerlily (in her pocohontas costume ) and DD (1) was Tinkerbell.

This year I will be the Queen of Hearts, DF is Mad Hatter (having the costume professionally made b/c there aren't any decent adult female costumes to buy!), DD (7) is Alice, and DD (3) is the Cheshire cat.
My 3 yr old has been practicing her smile for months

We're still deciding what to do, so any suggestions here are appreciated. Our two ideas thus far have been scratched:

Harry Dresden and Karrin Murphy (this one got booted because we don't think DH could take his staff on rides)

Tron characters (this one got scratched after DH's famous line "It wouldn't be too hard. I'd work out the electronics and then you can sew all the wires on." Ah huh. I hate sewing.)

At our one previous MNSSHP we dressed up as The Doctor (10) and Rose Tyler. Believe it or not, we actually had a bunch of people recognize us and a couple CMs tell us how much they appreciated the costumes.

Why yes, we are total geeks....why do you ask?

The Disney Store does make and carry adult costumes including Tinkerbell. I bought mine online at Disneystore.com last year and it was not risque at all. It is early September usually when the adult costumes are added to the site for sell.

A few ideas we've used for Halloween in Texas that handled the heat

Black Eyed Peas. Brown Tshirts with a large P on the front in electrical tape and eye black to give us black eyes. Super simple and kinda fun.

Spaghetti and Meatballs - Yellow Tshirt with a bright red plate painted on the front, strings from a mop trimmed and safety pinned onto the plate as the spaghetti and brown pompoms pinned on to make meatballs. Some red spray fabric paint to make the sauce.

Candy buttons - dress all in white and cut a piece of posterboard to 2/3 length and apply a neck strap. Use a sharpie to draw perforation marks and then spraypaint styrofoam balls in pastel colors and cut in half and then glue four to each square to resemble button candy.

Puppies for Sale - We dressed our daughter in a white shirt with dalmation spots painted on it and headband ears, took a box from a case of sodas (the brown shallow ones) and fixed it with shoulder straps and then used tiewraps to secure some of her stuffed puppy toys to the box (that we'd lined with newspaper) and hung a sign that read "Puppies for Sale" (or "Free Puppies") on the front.

Small Fry - I pained the front of a yellow tshirt with the red shape of a box of McDonalds French Fry container. It kinda scallops down at the front and the part that showed that was the back I painted with red and white strips and put a large McDonalds M on the front of the box then took foam rubber and cut it into strips that were about 4-5" long and 1.5" thick and set them out in the sun which made them yellow then took brown spray paint and "crisped" the edges and then safety pinned them into the fry container (I suppose if you're industrious you can cut a slit along the opening and actualy put them "IN" the box but I'd probably put a simple pocket under that so they didn't rub the skin) and then used iron on letters to put "small fry" on the back of my son's shirt. He was adorable and won a Radio Disney Costume Contest and was on the news with this one.

Don't forget the classic. Carry a box of Cheerios (or whatever is your cereal of choice) with a rubber dagger inserted in it....Cereal Killer

And of course when I was a scout leader I needed something fast for a Pack Meeting in October and I just taped smarties candies to my jeans and went as "Smarty Pants"

and one year my daughter was about 4 she wore a Barbie Dress and a crown and gave her silk red roses to carry I used a Satin Ribbon and painted "Miss America" and the current year on it with Silver Glitter Glue. I then put on an old bridesmaid dress and crown and carried dead roses and enhanced my future wrinkles with make up and grayed my hair with spray made my own sash that read "Miss America 1931" on it. All of our neighbors were laughing.

I'll be going as Captain Marvel (Shazam) from DC Comics. I made the costume. Relatively light shirt with the lightning bolt design attached to it. Cape made from some light fabric. I'll be substituting the long pants for some shorts. haha No way will be I wearing thick pants in September!

DD is going to go as a HSM cheerleader (we have the costume from her dance recital and I'm going to have EHS monogrammed on the front).

I am going to go as an updated version of a mouseketeer. I have a black skirt by Roxy that is super comfy and I'm going to grab a white t-shirt from Target and hunt down some retro velvet black iron-on letters and put a name, no necessarily my own , on the front and get some ears, probably a headband, and wear my flip flops . I want to be cool and comfy!

Affordable and wicked easy!

Dalmation family!

Pickup some painter's coveralls. You can find them at Home Depot if you want short sleeves, just carefully cut the long sleeve shorter (though my husband was fine in early October).

Next go to office Depot and get a big box of magic markers.

Go home and draw lots of dots on the painters coveralls. Be sure to tuck something between the front and back when drawing your dots...so the black markers do not bleed through. don't forget to draw a few "hidden Mickey's".

Be sure these are permanent markers.

If you sew, you can make some nice long tails....if not....I wouldn't worry about it.

Next, I found bandanas at Walmart.....everyone can be a different color.


I made my ladybug costume....a little more complicated so I'll skip it unless someone wants to PM me.

DH was not a costume kind-of guy but LOVED it when Cruella came over to him in the parade!

We are going as the Flynn-Fletcher family from Phineas and Ferb (shocking that I have to note that, but not everyone has been caught in the awesomeness of P & F!).

I'm going as Linda, the mom. Have my pants already - just searching for a lightweight top and vest.

DS is going to be Phineas. Found the PERFECT orange and white striped tee, blue shorts, and canvas shoes.

DS begged DH to be Ferb. I found him some cotton pants I'm going to cut up and dye purple. The leg is a little wider than Ferb's, but it should allow some extra air to come in (if there is any circulating that night...). I also found a linen button down shirt - it's not a perfect match, but we'll pretend that it is!

DD already has red hair so she will be transformed into Candace. A pink tank and white skirt and we're all set!

What about a couple of characters from Scooby Doo?? Fred, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma - easy to pull off, just plain clothes, just find ones as lightweight as possible.
