So, I am in this gourmet club (six couples) and we gather at someone's home for dinner once a month. Everyone brings something and the dinner usually has a theme. This month's theme is "Kid's Food- Grown Up".

I am already taking "Cookies and Cream" martinis (and I found a few other martini recipes that will work too- creamsicle, snickers, etc)

What I need are ideas for main dish/heavy appetizer to take as well. Some others are bringing:

Gourmet Grilled Cheese
Pigs in a Blanket
Finger Sandwiches
Some sort of tater tot appetizer (not really sure)

Anyway....any ideas of popular kid's food that I could "gourmet" up for grown-up tastes?

What about macaroni and cheese? I know there are recipes out there that use different cheese than the plastic orange cheese found in the boxed variety :rotfl:

I second the mac and cheese idea. I have a friend who makes it with 5 different kinds of cheese, a little bacon, and some buttered breadcrumbs on the top. it is delicious.

How about gourmet pizza? Using super fresh ingredients should give you an unforgettable pizza (providing you have a pizza stone, or pizza oven to give it that crisp pizza crust)

I was thinking about pizza....like pizza bagels, but I need it to be tasty enought for grown-ups....

You could do a pizza pot pie. You layer the ingredients in a pot pie pan, and if you have individual dishes, you could make a few individual pot pies. You can use any meat you like, cheese, and of course sauce. Dress up the ingredients with some fresh basil and oregano, and top it with pizza crust. you could make some type of design in the crust, too, if you want to get fancy.:goodvibes

Or, you could do parmesian crusted chicken bites. These are so good. You can either use shake and bake or corn flakes, mix this with a good amount of parmesian and some seasonings. Dip the chicken and bake. These are soooo yummy. Serve them with different dipping sauces. These are really good.

what about a quiche. Its just an egg pie. Make is basic with ham and cheese and eggs.

One thing I've done for parties is grown-up mac & cheese in busicut bowls. You can either make your own busicut bowls with those refrigerated busicuts - you turn over a muffin tin and form them into bowls. Or you could buy filo dough and make it inside a muffin tin, or you could just buy filo cups also. Either way I really like them because they are tasty, easy, and everyone loves just a small bite rather than a big ol messy spoonfull.
Another idea is mini cheeseburgers with carmaized onions inside puff pastry - done that for parties as well, and its always a hit.

I think the mini-cheeseburgers is also a great idea.....you guys are good!
