Dh & I are getting a puppy in about 1month. She's mostly black lab but has a small amount of chow in her. She'll look like a slightly fuzzier lab. We're running out of ideas for names. Help!

Yikes, that's a tall order. I prefer "softer" names for dogs, in a strange way it sets the tone for interactions with the dog. For instance, who would you rather pat, a Chloe, or a Killer? It's also fun to look at hobbies or things that are meaningful to you right now, like a Disney name or something else - maybe where you live or what you like to do. We have a pattern for naming our dogs - our new one gets part of the older dog's name, ongoing now for many years.

So, give us some ideas about yourselves. :confused3

Do you have a picture you can post? It would help...

Our first Dog was named Quianna and she goes by Q.
Our second dog was named huggy bear (both from adopt-a-pet rescue). He did not answer to that, I called him fred the first night and he wipped his head around and smiled so he realy picked his own name.

I wouldn't mind a Disney name. Dh wants something different, something that you don't hear a lot with dogs. For instance a lot of people have dogs named Bailey. Which I love, but he doesn't want. But I do want a girlie name. See why we're having such a hard time?

For a black dog--how about Cinder(ella)?
I wish I had thought of that when we named our black lab(Jasmine-after the black haired princess-DD wanted a princess name)

My cat was named Bella and I love love love that name for a pet.

Here are some ideas...

Snickers
Beasley
Bella
Koda (I know it is disney but not too bad)
Bear

And these are from my DD's (7&5)

Cat in the Hat or Twinkles... :lmao: :thumbsup2

How funny we were typing at the same time... That is our dog.

I just that of Raven since it will be black.

When we rescued our 2 dogs one of them was named "Monster"...:sad2: He was a VERY insecure dog who had issues.
They got kinda peeved that we renamed him.

His name is now Butters and let me tell you it really is a "non-defensive" name was really does put people at ease for him. It amazes me since I do know how he is.;)

I actually asked about Cinder but it was shot down pretty fast. His pick right now is Miya (pronounced Me-ah). I like that but not sure if I want it for a puppy. Please, keep the ideas coming. I'd like to give him a big option to pick from.

What is the dog's personality? For example we named "Butters" due to color but also from the character in SouthPark who is very insecure.:lmao:

What are the cats names?

I like Ella, Cinderella's given name. I wanted to name my youngest daughter Ella but my husband didn't like it. If I ever get a girl pet that isn't already named she's going to be Ella.

what about Magic? Growing up I knew a large black dog with that name and she was a great dog and companion to her owner. I also like the name Jasmine for a dog.

An old friend of mine had a dog that was a lab/chow mix. He was a great dog. He was named Chex, like Chex mix. I thought it was a cute name!

I had a puppy named Brewer. I also like the name Marley for a dog.

To me, Butters says "soft". Is he your dog that's golden in color too? I think it's a great name. Monster? :faint:

My dog is named Liesl (with two other names: my last dog's name as her middle name and a common name for all my dogs which in English means "friend and kindred spirit".) Nobody knows what the heck we're saying when they first hear it. They think she's Lisa. :rotfl: Foret spelling it... She was named after the oldest daughter in The Sound of Music played by the actress Charmian Carr, who I'd had some correspondence with about one of her books. At the time, I was thinking of names for my female GSD and I thought it sounded perfect. DH liked Rosie, but I thought Liesl was a better fit and more unique. ;)

Someone mentioned Raven. That's a pretty name for a black dog. I like the sound of it, and I haven't heard it very often if at all. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the family addition!

Here are some potentials for you

Mia
Ruby
Daisy
Pia
Ming
Alice
Rose
Stella
Ashley
Josie

Whatever you choose, you'll have fun finding the name that captures her.

Try googling pet names, you will get a list of a few websites that have pet names (often with their meanings). We did that when we got our first dog. For our second dog, she picked the name. First, we were going to call her Teddy (because she looks like a stuffed teddy bear) but she did not respond to that name at all. So I started calling her other names to see what she liked, and she picked Kennedy right away responding to it immediately.
