I am throwing a "pre-prom"party for my dd's senior prom that has snowballed into about 50 people coming! Mostly the parents and family of the seniors that my dd will be sharing the limos with but I need ideas on finger foods that are not messy(don't want any spills on the dresses and tux's prior to the prom!) so far I have only come up with fruit platter, veggie platter, puffed stuffed pasteries, asparagus roll ups with procutto(sp) any recipes and fun ideas are soooo welcome! thank you! :)

Sounds fun! Meatballs would be easy.. maybe go light on the sauce... so it does not drip....
eggrolls, wontons, cold shrimp platter...
cheese straws too.. all quite yummy and not too messy.

Those sound like pretty good ideas. Keep in mind that it is more likely the food will be eaten by the parents AFTER the kids take off in the limo! Before that will be the excitement of arrivals, photos, etc. And our proms always include dinner so they don't eat a lot ahead of time anyway.

Once that limo takes off there will be that Phew - now we can relax a bit and party ourselves moment!

Have fun! Oh! And remember the little plates and napkins - lots of napkins, so the kids have something to hold their food and wipe off fingers for what they do eat!

we have served the following at similar parties:

miniature quiches, chicken tenders, snack mixes, little party rolls with ham, a sweets tray.

allrecipes.com is a great website for recipes, divided into categories.

chicken salad on the small croissants that Sam's sells are always a favorite. Make the chicken salad with sliced, toasted almonds instead of celery and put some leaf lettuce on each one for a beautiful little sandwich!

And I agree about the food being more for parents than kids - I didn't want to eat anything before my prom so I'd be hungry for the dinner they were serving. You could have fun with that - maybe encourage the parents to bring their old prom pictures!

Have a great evening!
