ok, I am on a budget for this trip...

was going to book with disney but the prices are getting spendy right now... What I want to do is go in mid october.... book by next week.

paradse pier is $1900 for 2 adults 3 kids... with tickets for 4 days...

I want to go in a room where it is nice, roomy and will be able to sleep all 5 with a pull out couch or a roll away. we have stayed at the hojo 3 times and were cramped every time, with one trip my son had to sleep in a stroller for 5 days. So I am looking to stay away from that right now.
Not worried about walking distance....etc... we are driving in from az so don't have to worry about flights...
I am a semi disneyland expert but not on hotels... help with advice please...
maybe a way to keep the cost down with tickets or hotel etc...

I really love the mini suites at the Best Western Park Place Inn. I am staying there for two nights in October, and my rate is $129 a night. That includes a free continental breakfast and its literally right across the street from DL, its the closet hotel there is.

The mini suite has 2 Queen beds, and a pull out, double size sofa. It will sleep a total of six people.

I love the onsite DLR hotels, and for a family of five would recommend either Paradise Pier or the Disneyland Hotel. As both of those give you a spacious room with a third bed option (either a rollaway or daybed at the DLH, and rollaways are free, PPH rooms all have a twin sized sofa bed). The GCH is lovely, but its so pricey and the rooms are much smaller. But if you are on a budget, you can definitely do better than the $1900! I mean I am doing a rough guestimate that you are paying over $250 a night for the room alone. So for sure you could save staying offsite. Esp. with the free breakfast at the BWPPI which is not that great, but its free. And your room has a microwave, frig and coffee maker so you could have some snacks and warm up any leftovers to save money.

So onsite is great, but its so expensive. If you want to save money, I highly recommend the BWPPI. Just make sure you book the mini suite if you want a bit larger room with a pullout. We stayed there in June of 2007 and loved it. The location alone is hard to beat. I also love the Tropicana, it has a nicer pool and is right next door, so also a great location. I know they have suites but I don't know anything about them or what they cost. A true suite is going to be pricey, the mini suite at the BWPPI is really just an oversized hotel room but very spacious. Not sure what type suites the Tropicana has. Desert Inn also has suites, again, though I am not sure exactly what type and what price!

Getawaytoday.com has some great deals right now. I'm not sure if your dates fall into the same categories as mine. I was able to get Desert Palms & Suites for $118.59/night that includes taxes for a Mohave Suite which is 2 queen beds and a small room with a sofa bed for 09/18/09-9/26/09. I thought that was a really good deal. You might check them out, they also had some of the other surrounding hotels for good deals too!!

I'm not sure what the date of your trip is, but what about one of the new kid's suites at Hojo? They're a LOT roomier than the regular rooms.

tahnk you thank you.. I am definetly looking into the hotel!

I can honestly say, the pictures look just the rooms really do! As you can see these are not state of the art, blow you away, sort of rooms. But ours was spotlessly clean, super spacious and we really liked it. The pool was the weakest part of the hotel, but it was enough for my kids to take a dip in and cool off. For an October visit, who knows how much you'll swim anyay! And being a two minute walk to the turnstiles is so nice.

I agree, look on Getaway.com, Expedia and other sites to see what kind of deals you can get. I booked on Expedia, but my rate is refundable which is nice. Directly through Best Western the rate was a bit more, but not much.

I second the the mini suites at the BWPPI.

We stayed there with 3 adults, a teenager and 2 kids and the only time it felt cramped was when I was trying to get the teenager away from the mirror.

Plus it has the added benefit of being the closet hotel to DL, except for maybe the GCH.

when did kid suites open up? is that more than one room?

Yes, the HOJO now have new Pirate kid suites (two rooms with a connecting door), consisting of:

1 King bed on one side of the suite for mom and dad;
twin bunk beds and a pull out double sofa sleeper on the other side;

And of course you'll have two bathrooms, mini-fridge, microwave, and a coffeemaker. (And some pirate treats/booty for the kids to keep.)

If the Entertainment book rate is available for your dates, it's $99 per night.

Otherwise, you can receive a 15% DisBoard discount, or a 20% Annual Passholders discount. (Off of the current rack rates during your dates.)

Here's is a link to the HOJO discussion boards for a sneak peak at the suite:

Hope that helps. :thumbsup2

We stay at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. It is not in walking distance but has very spacious suites with full kitchenettes (full size fridge, microwave, stove, dishes). They were just remodeled last year (our first stay) and we loved the clean, modern rooms with granite counters, new furniture, and LCD tvs in the 2 rooms. They also have a great free hot deluxe breakfast. The pool is pretty basic. They have senior and AAA rates. Check your dates. Only negative is the elevators are slow.

Not sure if this link will work:

FYI, they have just started charging parking if you stay less that 6 nights ($12/nght).

I skimmed the posts, but don't think anyone mentioned Fairfield Inn yet. They also have good rates right now, especially through GAT and Costco. I believe all rooms have a pull out sofa chair, kid size only. We have stayed there a few times and are going back at the end of the month. No cont breakfast, but we are planning on taking our own food for that. Cereal, milk, yogurt, fruit, prob buy some Mimi's muffins on the way in.

My niece went a few months ago and stayed at the Hampton Inn. They really liked it, it included a great breakfast and they even have family suites, but it isn't walkable I don't think. So factor in fare for the ART. Those rates were great on GAT as well, and if you book through them it waives the $12 a night parking fee.

I have to second the FFI. DNana always comes to the parks with us and my kids are adult size now. We fit comfortably at the FFI. My DS is 6' and still sleeps on the pullout. The beds are very comfortable along with your choice of pillows. HTH!:thumbsup2
